Front porch ideas

Our new house has a very large front porch. I’m at a loss as to how to make it look nice. Don’t want clutter. Was maybe thinking bistro style table & chairs and a couple of planters. Other than that I’m stumped.

If you are interested in putting furniture there, I think folding furniture might work better, as it’s a fairly narrow space.

What’s the width & length from door to each end? It looks like entry isn’t in middle. Width is especially important. As you can gather from suggestions made, guessing the width is pretty narrow. A bistro table & 2 chairs would work at the closed end with the corner. A wider / longer & colorful door mat would add color. The hedge will block view of pots as chispa says so think about hanging baskets - more than 2 if possible & on both sides of door. What’s the sun exposure of the porch & what climate are you in?

Post a picture of the porch straight on. Right now it doesn't very useful.

    Current advisors have good ideas.
You may wish to lighten the ceiling by using a light blue paint.
You may also want to position sturdy narrow tables close to the door,so that you can easily transfer food and drink to your guests.
Do you have room further along for any audio visual components or small tables for games or reading?
A colorful long rug or two will also beautify this area.
Do show us your completed arrangement!

It's unlikely you'll use that porch as long as it is hemmed in by those hedges. I'm not sure how well any bistro chairs will be visible from the road, since they will be behind the hedge. So, if you aren't going to sit on it and not much will be visible as style, why bother?

If you're thinking of removing the hedges, you'll want to look at your house, porch and landscaping holistically. And post pictures of the front of the house.

Before I considered adding anything to the narrow porch I'd cut the hedge down by half. I'm sure it would enhance the appearance of the home without this huge barrier in front of the house.

Then I'd paint the ceiling of the overhang. The lighter color paint will increase the amount of light inside the house.

Next I'd use concrete porch paint to even out the appearance of the porch. You can be far more creative than I illustrate in this picture but you get the idea.

As others said, the porch looks extremely narrow, too narrow for most furniture. It would help us see that if you would set a simple lawn chair or kitchen chair on the porch and post that picture.

The narrow-ness is exacerbated by the ponderous hedge. Beverley’s picture gives you a good illustration of how much that hedge makes the porch feel closed in.

I think I’d add a bright runner rug, maybe 3’ x 6‘ or 7‘ or even 8’ long. And a pot or two (or planting boxes) of shade tolerant plants. BIG ones.
