Buy a New Entry Door or Repair Possible?

Our front door is approximately 35 years old. Patch and paint or need new?

I don’t have more experience than an exterior door I recently repainted, but I would try sanding, caulking, and painting.

I would strip it down. It looks like it has several coats of paint on it, and for it to look nice, it needs to be stripped, scraped and sanded, and then primed and repainted.

Does the crack go all the way thru on that panel? Too many coats of paint and the panel cannot float like it should with the expansion and contraction of the wood.

We decided to repair and paint the existing front door(s), so off I go to select a new entry knob /hardware- lock . Fun! Uh, nooo. . Seems our door is the mortise type, which means there are fewer choices, AND being mortise makes them pricier, too. Also, we have double doors, tho only one has the keyed lock. Wanting a solid satin brass- low glow look,) which also reduces the choices.

The designer type store had few Emtek and Baldwin on display, and little help with the mortise issue . Never thought it would be this hard. Could really use some help. TIA!!!

End of the story, if anyone checks here:

Doors patched, painted black*

Paid $500 to have old Baldwin hardware stripped and polished. ( vs. attempting it myself). That beat identical new for (shockingly)

thousands! The unlacquered brass is a bit bright now but willl age. Would like to add a knocker, but likely look odd on only one door, and odder still on both..

* perhaps should have painted eggshell vs. semi gloss, but I still like it. I did learn that lightly going over it with furniture wax would dull the sheen slightly. Doubt Im brave enough to mess with it. Adding pic later.

commenting so I get to see pics of the refinished door. I have a big crack down my front door and am wanting to patch it and repaint. Any tips on your process?

I would like to see a picture. Doors and door hardware are very expensive these days. I prefer semi gloss. it seems to hold up much better. All my exterior doors are semi gloss.
