Exterior needs visual balance

last year

The garden and lawn are being worked on, but I've noticed the exterior of my home is unbalanced. What could I add, decorative wise? The house numbers can be moved and it will be getting fresh paint once a color is chosen! I'm open to adding some trim (not shutters) around the small windows! Would appreciate and love to get some ideas. I am adding a pic of a home that has house #'s I like the look of. Would that be too much? (going vertical instead of horizontal)

The easy answer is 3 large planters 2 tall one lower in the middle all filled with seasonal plants od decor like for Christmas A more permanent answer is some shrubs same ide 2 taller one more wide and short , thos e of course need to be kept in check The bed on the right is a bit of a mess and are those chairs there ? If so remove them. I loike the entry in the inspo pic but not sure if that exact design can work with your roof. Large house #s to the left of the door coulld also be part of this and I would do them vertical. The house can lean MCM so is thta a style you like ? This is one of my faves for inspiration for that style landscaping and also front door and garage door . Notice the pots on the right

I’d plant a pretty ornamental tree there

Remove the part of the driveway that dies into the house and replace with planting beds. right now its screams garage converted to living space. add foundation plantings on the left side as well. If you want chairs in the smaller space remove the path lighting and lower the plantings, right now it looks like its off limits with the lights outlining the area.

i dont think the house itself is an issue, just needs landscaping. if you want to paint id pick a less drab color than grey which always reminds of institution especially since your house is concrete block.

Landscape the left side, then change the right side to complement. Add the type of numbers Beverly posted to lean into the mid-century style. Sweet house!

You have a pleasant solid looking house.
Landscaping at both sides of front door will greatly enhance eye appeal.Beverly and other advisors have excellent ideas.
Declutter the area to the right of the door and extend plantings under the big window.
Park the vehicle further back, maybe move chairs elsewhere.
A few taller shrubs fronted by lower banks of flowering plants will beautify the left side.
Big house numbers for sure...eye catching and a practical safety measure.
Extra bonus if you can match some flower colors with some of the house hues.

Immediately taking out the chairs! 😃😂 I love the mid century look and the homes around us are very much like the one posted with the yellow door. Was debating taking out that pathway and am going to go ahead with that. Thank you for the link with the numbers, exactly what I envision! I'm going to work on the landscaping, it's very sandy, E/W facing (zone 9, central FL) I hope to get some taller plants/trees or shrubs there on the blank canvas. After that, paint color decisions! I may add the numbers before painting, and I'll post pictures when or if I do. Thank you all so much for the help!! 🥰♥️

Landscaping along will do the trick. You just need some plants with height and volume along the left side of the house to help balance things out. If you are going to paint, do that before landscaping, that way the painters won't trample your new plants while working. Consider the colors of your plants in the consideration for paint colors.

Jen - you don't have to get rid of your chairs forever - maybe just temporarily while you make a good spot for them!

Landscaping is really all your house needs - colorful plants/flowers will really make a huge difference in curb appeal.

I would turn the area in front of your converted garage into a little sitting area. There are many inexpensive ways to create something that looks really nice. Once you add that + add a landscaping bed across the left side of your house, it will look beautiful.

Lowe's has landscaping kits that include weed barrier fabric + additional materials needed to hold fabric in place + the list of plants/flowers that correspond to the numbered circles printed on the weed barrier fabric. I believe that they have them by growing zones + have many different sizes (if you are not sure what to plant).

Etsy also sells landscaping design plans + custom ones made for your yard. This one was around $40. You also can look at the different designs for ideas on what to plant in your yard.
