Design dilemma!

Help please! I'm terrible with this kind of thing. Can you all give me ideas on how to design this room? I hate what we've got going on, and am open to any ideas.
This area is almost immediately to the left when you walk in the house.
I attached a Pic of what it looks like with our furniture and with out. This is the kitchen area with a large space in front. We have a counter height dining table in the corner next to the galley kitchen

We need more information. What is the purpose of the room? Is this the only place to watch TV?

Post a full detailed floor plan.

I don't see a TV or furniture. The desk with two monitors-is this a WFH area?

is the TV the black thing to the right of the door?

I would move it to the other side of the room so you can see it from the kitchen.

Remove all the little things, shelves in the corner of dining space. move the mirror out of that area. Sofa on the right side wall, Do you need the computer and desk in this space?

How many people do you need to accomodate?

Some more info: there are 4 of us ( 2 adults, 2 kids), the black thing is a salt water aquarium, there is a separate TV room so this is not the only place for a TV. Though it is the only place for a desk for the computer unless I swap it with the upright piano currently in the TV room. In terms of purpose, I would like to give this area more purpose. Should i turn it into a sitting area with couch? Move dining area there?

a kitchen is a busy hub for a family. I would keep the dining near the kitchen.

a computer, used for school work, needs a quiet spot, is there a better space for it?

Where does that door lead to?

That door leads to the garage

If you add a sofa and area rug, the room will be less echoey. To me, a sofa with soft rolled arms is good for napping. Or if there is room also add a comfy chair.

A good multi-use room with coffee table large enough for games, puzzles etc. or relaxing spot for coffee and snacks. A place for guests while you are preparing food.

Do you have enough storage in the kitchen? I dont
know if you’re considering a renovation now if in
future , but I could imagine tall cabinets on wall by garage door, and extending countertop and cabinets
under the large window. Also removing upper cabinets above peninsula would really open up the space. I’ve included a similar photo I found here on Houzz that
shows a wall of tall storage cabinets, and a layout that would work in your large room.

I would make it a comfy hang out/game/homework area where people can be comfy while others are preparing food or do other activities. Hard to see how much room there is and to fit this, I might move the desk to the aquarium wall....

Add a rug under the furniture to warm it up and ground the arrangement

First decide what would best meet your family’s needs and perhaps creating a multi-functional room might be a good option as creating ”zones” can be a good use of space. How old are your children and what would be beneficial? Arts/crafts, homework and comfy reading areas, table for games, toy storage, bookcases, tv, piano playing, etc. Consider your needs and then work on a layout, etc. Without knowing the dimensions and how you would best to utilize, it’s hard to suggest.

You had a good idea to have a "coffee station" but it's a bit too small. MarleneM had a good idea to extend the counter area. You can fake it by just putting a sideboard under the window. In fact your desk bookcase might work well under the window. You can put a pressure fit curtain rod on it and a curtain to hide whatever you keep in there. I would then make the wall with the mirror a "foyer" (ie a bench, hooks, place for keys). Buy a proper desk for your computer set up. I would move the desk area to the far wall, the fish tank to where the desk is now and the table in front of the kitchen.
