House palm trimming

last year

I have a "house palm" that has 7 "trunks". Most are very leafy and are about 3-4 feet tall. One trunk is over 6 feet and has nice palm fronds and a few new ones shooting out the top...but it is bare (and not aesthetically pleasing) from where the lower, fuller trunks are to its top fronds. If I cut the unappealing trunk, I understand it may not regenerate. But my question is if it will kill the shorter, lovely full trunks as well.
I received this as a part of a planter from my mother's funeral (2012) and don't want to kill it, but would like to keep it more aesthetically appealing. It is in a huge pot on a cart for transport in/out of house per season (I'm in Indiana). The taller trunk is making it difficult to get in/out of the house door without bending it. Any thoughts?
