Chandelier too big for table?

last year

I have fallen in love with this chandelier but am not sure if it’s too large for our space.

Fixture is 40” in diameter.
It will be hung at a height that folks won’t bonk their heads into it (we have 9’ ceilings).
The table is 36” x 60”.
The fixture exceeds the width of the table, that angle is visible from the dining room.
It doesn’t exceed the length, that angle is visible from the kitchen.

I‘m all for mixing styles. I’m a big fan of the eclectic. But I don't really see that style of light working in your space, and with your dining set, regardless of the light’s size. I think even with a smaller scale on the same style of light - the look might be a bit off. With this size, it may appear as though a UFO crashed and landed in your dining room. :)

In your photo on the right there is a lamp (circled in yellow). This is worth trying.

I admit I often don't like single bulb fixtures in a dining space as I like to have lighting on a dimmer -- often with only 1 bulb it's hard to have sufficient light when dimmed

If you like the texture what about this fixture from ballard? the same idea but more refined (and more bulbs)

It doesn’t appear I can reply directly to a comment but I just wanted to thank everyone for their input. I should have mentioned that the peninsula is unfinished as we’re waiting for the oak panels to be stained to an American walnut shade. And I haven’t managed to pick our knobs/pulls yet :) Also to @tachch, I have almost that exact chandelier you circled in our bathroom!

What is the measurement of the room?

generally you measure the room... 12 x 12 = 24

24" inch diameter light fixture.

I like it, just not the bare bulb. think how it will look at night when lit.

Choose a chandelier that is half the size of the dining table. Stay in the style. Your chairs are Gothic style, so consider the same for the chandelier.

And, yes the light you show is too big, and the wrong style. Belongs in a tropical setting.

BTW, the dining rug is too small. You need around 3' larger than the table in order for chairs to be pulled back and all four legs stay on the rug.

If you can't replace the rug, go without one; find another room for the rug.

That statement chandelier belongs over a ROUND TABLE. It will visually fight with a rectangular table.

That fixture is available in a 24" diameter. You could place two over your table.

Too big and IMO wrong shape too The style not really working either . I agree a linear fixture or 2 drop fixtures would be a better choice .

The 40" is too large for your 36" table but Dainolite has it in 24", a perfect size for your table. I like the idea suggested by @BeverlyFLADeziner to hang 2 pendants for your rectangular table instead of just one.
