Thank you. Yes, I know it is humongous. It is just enough of a seating space for all of us to lounge on. 2 are teens and other 2 kids are quickly approaching teen years! I can get a floor plan later, but I have to say, I have divided it up several times, and there is not much else that can be done and still meet our needs. Really, I think the solution is new house, but hubby does not want to move! I tried a corner sofa and loveseat type arrangement but it really didn't provide us with enough seating since I had to move one piece of sectional to another room to do that.

Sounds like your husband isn't up for any changes.

He's fine with the Fireplace and sectional arrangement.

6+ years from now you may get to rearrange the room, until then, this is what you have.

The pilot light is off for safety since you have combustibles close? Since you don't plan to move, you could have the gas disconnected, fireplace/mantel removed, then sheetrock over the space including that high enclosure.

I agree get some new seating that does not take all the space in the LR. A to scale floor plan is a must if you want help here. You have small space and all huge furniture it does not work. With room measurements we maybe could help. Is this the only seating space in the house ?

Yes, it is unfortunately. And it is a priority for us to have space to really snuggle and lounge when we are watching movies and things. This is why we opted for oversized furniture even though it is not optimal aesthetically for the size of the space. We just bought this about 6 months ago so it is what we are going to try to make work. It can be reconfigured 1 other way to where we still have all pieces in the room and therefore can fit the whole family. Nonetheless, I will attach a floorplan with measurements soon and also show the other arrangement of the sectional some time next week to get input. Thank you!

It is cheaper to remove a fireplace than to move house. Get what fits your family. After all, you would not have added a fireplace in that location if the house had been designed for you in the first place. Consider adding a window in the former fireplace location to match the existing window.

I would want to keep the fireplace for use down the road - if it were me, I would want to hide it and the cabinet above and would probably diy a printed mural (wallpaper also works) on a large frame for the area (with enough depth to account for the mantle and sit flush against the wall) - then would push back the sectional so the hearth could not be seen

Not a great look but very common would be to flip your room. Put the TV over the fireplace. Your sectional could be farther from the TV (which it appears would be a good thing) and your room would not scream weird covering the fireplace. That sectional could seat 10...hopefully at least two of the middle 'seats' can be removed so you look like you have more home and less sectional.

Ok, so I know this is still really crowded looking but is it any better? I have removed one piece and placed in a separate room and separated the pieces into a corner sofa and loveseat. We still mostly have enough seating with this setup.

I love those big comfy looking sectionals but had to get rid of mine when I moved to a smaller house. I would not get rid of the fireplace, because your family will move away and then you can remove either the loveseat or other parts.

Yes, that's true. I hate to think about it, but yes, the kids are growing up very fast. So, I may not need all the pieces for very long. :(

I'd move the side table near the floor lamp slightly further from the sofa, and would the one in front of the fireplace fit at the end of the sofa as shown below?
