Thanks all for the good vibes. Last night was dicy with a possible collapsed lung but it turns out to be something else. It is complex but not quite as scary. Will know more this AM when the doctor rounds. Thank goodness of opioid pain relief!

So sorry to hear this, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your husband.

Thank you all. He was transferred to a different hospital today with docs much more specialized in what he's facing. They have done a great job of communicating with his doc back in NY and might be able to do a procedure tomorrow. Pain meds are continuing to get him through.

Complex but not as scary...I'll take that as a positive sign. All the very best to you, your husband and praying for insight for your medical professionals.

Your husband is in my thoughts and prayers. I am happy to hear that you've discovered that it's not as scary as it initially appeared to be - although, I imagine it's still quite stressful.

My SO developed a really bad case of shingles over the past few days. He had the shingles vaccination a few years ago = it was supposed to lessen the severity if he developed shingles at some point. I can't imagine it being worse than what he's dealing with now. He has a client who is an ER doctor - and he said it is the worst case of shingles he's ever personally seen.

It's been a stressful few days - however, I'm sure it's nothing compared to what you've been going though. Please let us know if there is anything that we can do for you - seriously, I know that we are located all over the country - but today's technology makes the distance much less of a factor. 💕

@dani_m08 - I'm so sorry to hear about your husband's shingles. I know it can be just awful so I can't imagine how bad the worst case of it is. The vaccine is a really rough one and it stinks that it didn't mitigate his case. (Or as you said, maybe it did?)

Is he on the anti-viral med for it? My husband had it when we were in our mid-30s. I noticed a rash when he got out of the shower. We were going to dinner at our friends' house, both of whom are physicians, took one look at it, and prescribed the anti-viral immediately. So he got it in him within hours of the very first sign of it. It was like a miracle drug.

Thanks to all of your for your good thoughts. It feels a bit heart warming to read this in the middle of the night.

Have to wonder why, when we think we have a really big problem, some other HUGE problem surfaces, making the first problem seem quite small ? Quite unfair! Good wishes for DH and you.

Yes, the problems keep getting heaped on me this year. It all feels weighty until I read the paper and see pictures of starvation in Gaza.

I had to fly to NY suddenly for my son's lung collapsing on his 2nd trip out there in 2021. He had to have sudden surgery and we ended up out of state for over 1 week. A scary first trip to NY for me. Sounds like you are having a similar experience but perhaps started in the NY area.

@Kendrah, I am so sorry that yet another worry has been placed on your plate. Life at times seems to really test our strength. I've been there and know how hard times like this can be.

You are in my thoughts and prayers and I know that many of the other Houzz contributors and I will be there for you if you need us. This crazy group of Houzz contributors were an amazing support system for me when I had to be strong for my family and couldn't share my burdens with them. Like most families, we may not always agree on everything, but we will have each others backs. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help or if you just need someone to listen and be there for you.

Great news! The procedure went much better than expected. And we randomly ended up with one of the few surgeons in the country that has any experience with this quite unusual and potentially serious medical situation. The doc was impressed with the conditions of my husband's insides - who doesn't want to be praised like that???

Everyone told us we had to stay in the hospital until at least sometime today. But I ran into the surgeon in the lobby Starbucks at 4 pm yesterday. He was totally fine with us leaving, especially since our apartment is six blocks away from the hospital. You can believe I busted my husband out of there last night!

We have been dozing at our apartment all day today. After two nights sleeping in a chair and making pureed food until midnight, my back is spasming. So I'm on a heating pad next to him. We are quite the pair.

Thankfully my mom is doing well now and the rest of my family has come to our rescue with groceries and the like. My brother and sister-in-law took our dog. She is having a blast with them swimming in rivers and going for long walks. She probably won't want to come home!

When we walked in the apartment last night we saw that our dog peed on the floor just a centimeter from the rug. Your post was quite apropos @JAN MOYER

Houzz is not only a guilty pleasure for me but often a distraction from other things in life I don't want to think about. It is a much better addiction than most. What would we do without it?

My husband and I walked a block tonight at dusk and saw tons of lightening bugs and three baby rabbits! What a total joy. I've slept 13 of the last 24 hours and am ready for more.

My husband is sleeping next to me. For a few days after anesthesia he tends to groan, moan, and make a creeking breathing noise in his sleep. It always scares the crap out of me. If our dog were here I think she'd be hiding in the bathroom now. LOL.

My god I love this man and am just filled with gratitude right now.
