Higher end wall ovens

last year

I am agonizing over which higher end wall oven to purchase for my kitchen remodel.

I’m looking for 30in, convection and ideally would like fast preheat as well. There are so many other bells and whistles that come with ovens in this price range. I’ve had sales associates steer me in different directions and have scoured Yale appliance youtube channel for reviews. I just want an oven that works and is reliable.

Currently researching Thermador, Fisher & Paykel, Miele and SKS. Some part of me just wants to do Bosch 800 series and end the misery.

Any thoughts/recommendations?

I think I've read that Bosch ovens have some issues. You may want to research. I've had GE ovens for the past 25 years and have been happy with them. Please know that the guts of the ovens are the same for Profile and Cafe series. Although I have mostly high end appliances in my new home, I felt the Profile blended better with my more modern aesthetic than Cafe and did the research. Saved a few bucks also! The other factor in my decision was I wanted an Advantium oven.

"I am agonizing over which higher end wall oven to purchase for my kitchen remodel."

CR found no relationship between "higher end" brands and more pedestrian brands in its tests of electric wall ovens. For example, the $1800 LG WSEP4727F earned a "recommended" rating while the $7100 Fisher & Paykel OS30SDTDX1 was the second-worst performer among all ovens tested.

What is it about high end that makes you want one of those brands? More bells and whistles - more to go wrong; i.e. not work. Do all of the brands you're considering have reputable local repair services? If so decide what you actually need in an oven then pick one you like the looks of. When we remodeled our kitchen I obsessed to no end, bought high end brands and it was all lovely. But when I moved ten years later into an existing house, I replaced all the appliances with mid-range and they are all just as good as the high end stuff I paid a small fortune for.

Thanks for your reply @3katz4me. You make some excellent points. It's as simple as I have the $, this is my forever home, I do like the design more of higher end brands, and I figure, why not? Really as simple as that. If I had ample kitchen space, I would have a speed oven, convection wall oven, AND a combi steam oven. But I don't have the space. So I am looking to do a speed oven above a convection wall oven. I have lived the last 6 years with a GE gas range, very entry level. I am not an amazing cook by any stretch, but I am not bad either. Never had any issues with it. Someone with some good kitchen skills can whip up amazing meals with the most basic of appliances, that I am not denying. So sure, I could just put a GE wall oven in my space, and maybe I will. Just thought I'd throw out the question to see other's experience of mid-higher end brands.

Mind if I ask, what appliances, specifically wall oven(s), do you currently have in your kitchen?

I have GE Monogram cooking appliances. However last year I had to replace the monogram speed/microwave and I bought a profile microwave with a trim kit. The speed function in the oven was good for a few years but stopped working and we didn’t miss it. To have replaced it would have cost thousands and the plain old microwave under $1,000 including installation. The single convection oven and 6-burner range top have been fine.

@Jennifer - in the kitchen I remodeled 20 years ago I had Dacor double wall ovens - very nice back in the day. In one of my current homes I have a JennAir gas range (came with the house), another has an Electrolux induction range (my choice) and the other one has a KitchenAid stack with microwave, oven and warming drawer (came with the house). The two that came with the house are of the age that I've been researching what to replace them with when the time comes which could be any day. I too have the $ to get whatever I want but after finding a top of the line Miele dishwasher to be quite disappointing, I'm not as inclined to spend it on high end appliances any more though I did just buy a SZ fridge.

We put iin a Thermador double oven when we built this house: combi-steam on top, convection w/rotisserie on the bottom. Love it, and we’ve never missed the microwave. We mostly just used it for heating milk for coffee and making popcorn, anyhow.

I put in a Fisher Paykel wall oven in 2006 and it was still working when I sold the house in 2023. I especially liked the blue interior.

The easy choice without regard to price is a Miele CSOXXL plumbed. If you want more- over a Miele convection oven you'll use a couple times.

    Or Gaggenau. Both 30".

Curious what you ended up choosing? I'm in the exact same situation with the exact same feelings and scowering Yale Appliance reviews and Reddit for weeks. Exhausted by research, just want a reliable no-frills oven that works well without all the gadgets. Was feeling like doing the least expensive Miele but today looked at Bosch 800 because at least if it's not perfect it will not have cost me as much money/regret.

I’m in the same boat. Looking to replace Dacor. TOnight I set it at 450. It came up to temp. After cooking for 30 minutes I checked the temp….360. Ridiculous. It doesn’t maintain a steady temp. What to do
