Is there a reason why the client won't address the exposure issue? There are lots of treatments and shades that allow views and light and block UV rays.

Everything in that room - upholstery, art, wood furniture, lampshades, rugs - is going to be impacted by the sun exposure.

I agree with deegw. My house is basically a glass box MCM. I had all of our windows treated with UV protected film, virtually invisible. None of my deep colored ( indigo ) wool rugs have faded nor has any of our artwork. We also have solar shades that we rarely lower ( only while we’re away on vacation or at our second home.).

You look at the higher end of "indoor outdoor" - UV stabilized broadloom, you CREATE your area rug from one of them, have it hand bound, or if the source offers an area rug in your selection - go that route.

These are not the very flat, hose accepting , wash it, bleach it variety, and cannot be discerned as indoor outdoor. They are simply FADE and light resistant only.

You need a good broadloom store, and get off line for an area rug.

Patterns and textures abound, and yes, SOFT.

Stay far away from blue. It is the least stable dye that exists: )

IMO some good solar shades to control UV is a must with all stuff in a home that can fade over time . All things fade with sun exposure not just rugs but flooring, furniture drapery . Control the UV .

Thanks for the comments- much appreciated. I will look into UV window treatment. It has got me thinking - nothing in the room is faded at the moment. Maybe the windows are treated and she doesn't realize it?
