How to cover this doorbell transformer?

Dear all, please see this photo.

I know this is a wired doorbell transformer but it's located in the bedroom closet and looks kind of out of the place. What's the best way to cover it up or hide it in some way? Thanks!

That looks to me like a kluge that should be rewired. Surely an electrician can redo it and get it all behind the face plate.

Do you still use this door bell or is it out of service? If old and not used, remove it. If not, as noted above, hand a hat on it. Its a closet for petes sake.

Why not relocate it - is there a better place - basement, next to the electric panel?

You could also replace the wiring with "real" doorbell wire - that looks like 24 gauge telephone wire!

@millworkman I'm still using this door bell. It's actually connecting to a newly installed "wired Ring Video Doorbell". Thanks!

Ring says "18-gauge wire is the ideal gauge to use with Ring Video Doorbells." - another reason to replace the inappropriate wiring!

If you don't want to relocate the transformer are you going to go with the 'hat trick'?

Nicor Prime Chime products...gets all of that stuff in the wall instead of on the wall.

Wouldn't want your closet interior sight-line marred.

Leave the existing functioning transformer as-is!

This type of doorbell transformer is intended to be mounted out in the open.

Feel the transformer. If it is toasty warm or even somewhat hot, it should not be enclosed.

If it is tepid or just warm, then it is OK to enclose it.

Or recess it and cover with a grill.

The wire gauge appears to be 22awg or slightly larger and is adequate for the circuit.
