Sliding Screens For French Door

Hi everyone. We just got two new cats, who will be indoor-only, so I need to put a screen door on the French doors from kitchen to backyard. These doors are wide and swing inward. We normally use only one door and leave it open quite often for fresh air; the other door is opened maybe every few years, its only real function is to admit sunlight or allow really large furniture to be moved in.

The French doors open to a small patio and there is no room for outward swinging screen doors, so I am thinking about using retracting French door screen doors. I see Lowes has some for $500 ish.

Has anyone used these? Did you like/dislike them, were they durable and easy to install? Thanks for any advice.

I've never seen sliding doors or screens I consider durable. Ease of installation largely depends on (A) whether existing frame has tracks (B) skill of individual doing installation.

If frame doesn't have tracks I can see installation costing another $500.

Now let's talk about the elepha,,,,,,,,,cats in the room. Cats love climbing screens, are yours's de-clawed?

We have ”phantom “ screens on our French doors but ours swing out. Mine were installed by a screen door company that specializes in that. They were expensive, about $1200 a set if I recall right, but they work great, allows ocean breezes in.

We have phantom screens as well. Single door only but I know they sell them for French doors. That's what I would do.

Ours are on the outside. We live in MN so lots of weather. They have held up great.

I can easily imagine cats learning how to open sliding screens.

I think a squirt gun will quickly train the cats not to mess with the screens! Anyway, I can't think of an alternative to some sort of retracting or sliding screen. I'll measure the door and get a quote from Phantom, and compare to simply replacing a cheap Lowe's product every few years.
