Sheila, we're heading for 102F, but it's really nice now. Four straight months of hitting some 100s each month. Yes, irrigation is necessary here for months and I am so lucky for that. Anyway, your photos are spectacular. Those skies are really special photography. Do you use a camera camera? I'm wondering if smoke darkened the pinks and violet of the next to last photo. That one is a wow. I always like seeing the barn that sits just beyond the gate. Is the exquisite pink rose above the MFK photo also MFK? I love it. Thanks for this sky treat, Sheila. I hope any fires are very far away. Diane

Diane, that is how the sky was with my iphone 13 camera and no lens. I can't believe it either. We don't have smoke this year.

You can frame any of your photos, they're that good! How do you keep up with all your gardening? If someone showed me your photos before just now and told me that they were taken while they vacationed in Southern Italy or Greece, and stayed at a villa whose gardens were spectacular, I would have no reason not to believe them.

Thank you, Moses. I have a cousin married to a French man and he said my home and property was like Southern France.

I focus on the plant's health, Moses. This includes yearly Spring organic fertilizer, irrigation, planting in gopher baskets and removing dead wood. I don't have BS here or spray. I don't prune or deadhead like some of our spectacular gardeners here do to keep their meticulous gardens looking their best. If I had another of me I would deadhead. My husband takes care of the vegetables and chickens. I wouldn't really trust him with the roses. I do have 300 roses and 5 acres so I do what I can do myself. I call it a naturalistic garden.

So pretty, Sheila, in spite of the heat, and congratulations on all the carbon sequestering going on in your garden, as well as on all the beauty!

It's hot here, getting hotter, very dry, and with no irrigation to help. I fear I'm going to lose a couple of roses planted last fall. On the other hand, "Portland from Glendora" has had a trickle of blooms all summer, as did 'Indigo' until lately. 'Penelope' is currently in modest flower.

I broke my arm a couple of weeks ago, which ended all gardening, as well as most other activity. Today is the halfway point toward getting off my very cumbersome and uncomfortable cast. My gardener has disappeared, too, and I'm worried about him. So this is not a good time.

The garden is tolerably green, though. It has some resilience, and the growing trees, shrubs, and roses are a promise of better days to come.

O, Melissa, get well soon! That must be awful with a cast in this heat!!!I can sure sympathize-aside from my hip/knee pain, my own right arm is painful, too, and has gotten worse what with using the crutches,etc-got to ask my doc to request some tests on that. I wish that Dorothy would come along and find that can of oil to apply to my joints so I could dance along with her down the yellow brick road.

It seems like it's not a good time for a lot of people.

Sheila, your place is SO beautiful,and the photos are unbelievably beautiful and spectacular. I use the word "unbelievably" in a sort of figurative way, because I DO indeed believe them; I have seen effects of light like that in my life, things and sights that fill you with awe and wonder and love. It's so impressive that you managed to capture these effects.So thank you for these pictures, and thank you once again for your good wishes for my recovery on my shade cloth thread.

Sheila, your photos make Oregon look enticing. How are you doing with the smoke there? We've been dealing with it blowing all the way over to us on the East coast from the fires in Canada, but I thought I read you have more in that area, California? Does that affect you?

We've had the heat which normally wouldn't keep me in all day. I would at least get out to the garden in the morning, but our Air Quality all last week was significant enough to stay in as much as possible.

Five acres and 300 roses is a lot to take care of! But you really do such a great job. And you choose wonderful roses. Your views...Ahhhh....wow. Lucky girl!! LOL I hope the heat is short lived and we all get back to tolerable weather. Thank you for posting your photos, LOVE them!

I'm afraid this weather IS normal, these days. Easier temperatures will come eventually.

Bart, thanks for the sympathy. Inside the house isn't so bad, but I'm uncomfortable and bored, as I can't do much. It will certainly be welcome when temperatures drop. I should start to see the very first cyclamen blooms soon.

Sheila -- Stunning photos. The landscape around your home is beautiful, and your garden always looks in perfect harmony with it. Your garden aesthetic is very inspiring to me. I think my favorite photo may be the one of your dog with the electric pink sky.

You've given us beautiful images of your area. I wish we had such beauty.

Thankfully good air quality this year, Prairie. My sister in Minnesota has had the smoke in from Canada.

I searched the Houzz Rose forum for any discussions related to Ingrid's health status, but I couldn't find any information about her recent health or illness. The discussions found were about roses, specifically the Ingrid Bergman rose variety, and other related topics.

I was not trying to alarm anyone. I think Ingrid is on hiatus with the critters and global warming making it difficult for her rose growing.

She is very educational on climate change and global warming.

@Melissa Northern Italy zone 8 I'm so sorry about your arm and missing gardener. It gets increasingly difficult as our "mileage" increases. I hope your gentleman reappears safely and healthy soon and your remaining time of incapacitation passes quickly and painlessly.

Sixteen days to go before I get my cast off (if all goes well). At least I'm using the time to fill some holes in my patchy French.

I really don't understand what happened to my gardener and worry about him. And certainly my garden misses him.
