The space behind your range, and your coffee bar are both too small to look good in a herringbone pattern with your long narrow tile. If you really want the mix of brick and herringbone, your tile setter could cut every tile to a length that gives you more than a W of herringbone. Ask him what he can do for you and how much it would cost.

That said, I’d go for a stacked pattern.

First, your Repose Gray looks nicer on your cabinets than it does on my walls! I sampled it on large poster boards - and it looked just like the color in your fourth photo. However, after the walls were painted, my foyer looks like the lower right side of your first photo - a bit of a blue tint shows.

I like how you used glass doors over the sink - seems like it will make the space feel more open while working at the sink. Q - what color is your island? It looks like it may be stained wood - or maybe it's just painted black?

I was going to ask if your tile is Bedrosian Cloe White (based upon the size) - but it doesn't appear to have the variation that Cloe tile has. However, that may just be due to the sample board having closely matched shades vs. all the shades included in the boxes.

FYI - I love herringbone patterned installs = I tend to lean pro herringbone. However, I would not mix herringbone and running bond tile on your backspash. I've never been a big fan of having a different tile/install pattern behind a range/cooktop.

If your coffee bar area was larger = had more space that would be tiled (and was separated from other areas with backsplash - which it appears to be) - using a herringbone pattern there would look nice (again, as long as it's not a v4 tile - because it will look busy). However, that area is just too small to change the install pattern.

I was considering installing my Cloe White tile in a herringbone pattern in on of my guest bathrooms - but decided to change to a vertical stacked pattern instead. My boxes had quite a bit of variation - so, I thought it would look to busy adding a herringbone pattern install to it.

However, if your tile is a pretty uniform color (Cloe is a v4 = the highest designation for color variation), using a herringbone install pattern for the entire backsplash may work.

If you decide that using a herringbone install for the entire backsplash is something that you might like to do, move your sample board over in order for us to see how the size of tile looks in a herringbone pattern in the 18" area between the upper and lower cabinets.

Of course, I'm not a pro - this is just my personal opinion re: not using a different install pattern (or tile) over a cooktop/range. However, I do think that the area to be tiled over your coffee bar is too small to use a different install pattern regardless of what you decide to do over the range (plus, much of it will be blocked by appliances).

If you love the herringbone pattern for the coffee bar, do it.

I would keep the working side of the room the same pattern, not mixed.

the herringbone pattern is too busy for all the counter clutter in kitchens.

a running bond or a stacked pattern would calm it down.

I agree that it will look too busy to vary tile patterns and offset brick would be my choice. It will look great!

To answer the color question, my island is a navy blue.

And the tile is Equipe - 2-1/2"x8" La Riviera Blanc Glossy Ceramic Wall Tile

Lovely kitchen. Don’t mix patterns. All traditional subway or all herringbone. I’m usually a herringbone fan but I think it will look crunched up in your application. Traditional subway throughout seems best.

I think the tile is a bit large to get a visually pleasing repeat of the herringbone pattern.

I agree that the tile size is a bit large for herringbone in the space available. (Cutting the tiled would definitely make a herringbone work better.)

My suggestion would be to use the horizontal stack pattern from Lyn’s helpful photo. And use the same pattern in both places, whatever you choose.
