Why union at faucet?

I have a laundry sink with top mount brass faucet. It feeds water from above. not from under sink. it is an assy so i have c/h shutoffs above it for washer. why is faucet built with unions and not just solder or compression fittings? why would you want to remove faucet during lifetime?
