Unless you color drench it, including the trim, which leaves open the question of what the jamb of the large opening gets, I would not pant the walls a dark color because so much of it will be left white. You will end up with a few bands of black (or whatever) and that's it.

A color would look good in your entryway. Upload a photo to a paint company website and virtually paint in various colors to see what looks good to you.

Personally, I would make the foyer color complementary to your overall living room scheme.

What color is the front door on the outside? If the goal is to get more color into the entry area, one possibility is to paint the walls the same color as the living room, but paint the inside of the front door a brighter color. It actually doesn't have to match the outside of the door, either. In addition, you could add a more colorful mat on the floor.

I like the bluish color above, and even though, black is a favorite of mine, I dont like it in the entry way, because, it makes it a bit dark and uninviting, to anyone coming into your home.
