barn color help

Building a pole barn 50 ft away from this house. Thinking white as no steel siding matches the deep Brunswick siding we have on our house. White or black? Looking for recommendations thanks.

One of the light gray or tan colors similar to the stone in the house.

I would try to match the house with same white trim.

Since you can't match the house, how about siding the grey of the stone and trim and doors the deep Brunswick color of the house? Then you have the reverse of the house, looking very intentional.

That’s why I stick to the pros lol. I thought the white would look okay because the white trim throughout the front of the house

No stone on the barn. Take it off the house if you can, because as we all know:

"Masonry on a house is like a kilt on a Scotsman; if it doesn't go all the way around it is not very good.”.

I wouldnt paint it white, thats for sure. Leave the white for the trim. I would either paint it to match the house, or a deep barn red color.

You should be able to get a lack to match your garage door.

Match the house in colour even if not in the same material as 50ft away is very close so make it all cohesive.

My apologies red is winning 😩 trending more modern concept if possible. I’ve attached my options just in case I’m missing something

Never select colors off a computer screen as illustrated immediately above.

    Deep Red or Rustic.

I vote grey or a brown like your front columns. Something that fades into the background.

Red seems to be the "Barn color", but I wonder why because around here farm barns aren't. Newer ones are but they are usually a barn in shape only and really an additional garage/shed.

Is there any spatial relationship between the house and the barn or was the house plopped on the site and the garage plopped on the site as an afterthought?

Are there neighbors in the vicinity that would have view of the pole barn? If so, red may not be the best choice. I would go neutral like brown or grey and keep the house as the main pop of color.

Barn and house were both going to be white intially. The neighbors did white so we changed. There’s four of us on 2 acres lots

White to the west grey across from us and the barndo east of us with a pond between

The barndo would be the closest building to mine other than my house

This is our main area in the house no relevance but modern feel

Are you going to have animals or will it be used for storage? I can’t imagine that you would need that big of a barn for animals on just 2 acres.

Barns were traditionally were sealed with a mixture of linseed oil and rust to protect the wood. (Rust inhibited the growth of mold and fungi).

I would paint the barn red. Another black, white or gray building is one too many. Red is a great color with black/white and gray.

How can you go wrong with taking the advice on this topic from someone with a picture of a horse in their avatar.

I agree, its hard to pick from a computer screen, but, a rustic type red would be my choice for a barn.

Red it is. Thanks everyone. Going to look for a darker one if possible fading to pink worries me lol

The article is interesting. Though I would argue if keeping up with "tradition" then cheapest wins.

A rustic red, wont fade to pink.
