I have both roses, but because there is a fence and other stuff between them, I have never really held them together in the same "thought bubble". But considering I'd like to do some rose swapping, I started seriously thinking about CL. Baronne Prevost is beautifully made, wonderfully fragrant, and defoliates due to BS (in my garden at least). Ditto for Charles Lawson.

Differences between the two: BP is covered with little thorns, while CL is almost thornless. CL grows about 3X faster than BP, and refoliates far quicker after the usual BS attack.

I've probably had them both about 15 years, and while I get a few blooms every year from my little BP, my CL is typically loaded. Does BP smell better than CL? Anyone know? They both smell great to me.

How does their hardiness compare? That I don't know, but it's been around 0 to -1F here the last 3 winters and I've never seen dieback on either one.

BP is widely known & highly regarded, while Charles Lawson is so seldom documented that I think it is simply not regarded at all. Maybe I can change that.
