Lynn, I understand why you think 14" is the max given the space is 7'x7'. However, I don't think lighting rules always apply. The current fixture I have up is 18" and I think it looks properly scaled...my door is 8' tall, and the ceiling is 9'. The fixture I'm thinking of using is 2" smaller in diameter. I think the size really depends on other factors beyond just length and width of a room.

I'm not looking for validation. I'm open to other fixtures if other can make recommendations. I just explained why I'm don't think certain lighting rules always apply.

The drum shade fixture is fine. I think it could be larger in diameter to have more presence when you enter the house.

What do we think of this fixture?

If your door is 3’x8’, and your ceiling is 9’, and your door swings in, and your light centers on the space….seems like youd be limited to 12” wide if longer than 12”, or 12” long. I think the door would hit the one you listed at 14”widex16”long.

My current light fixture is 18" wide and we do not have a problem with door swing.

18" wide and 21" height...Zero problems.
