Ben Moore Decorator's White CC-20 - is it right for meee?

My house is a 1915 Bungalow, but it's a very simple bungalow - almost cottage looking.

I am going to be putting clapboard on it (replacing vinyl simulated clapboard) and I know I am going Waynesboro Taupe. WT is also know as Ashley Gray in the HC collection and Shenandoah Taupe in the AC collection.

I am going with Andersen white A-Series windows and the fibrex is more gray-white with a tiny blue undertone.

I originally wanted something kind of creamy to make it more 1910s / 1950s. But a creamy white isn't going to match the windows.

I'm really liking Decorator's White. It's got the gray / violet undertones, the same as Waynesboro. So they actually seem to pair well. DW also looks very architectural. And the fact DW has that gray undertone it gives me a good compromise and keeps things still a bit classic looking. I don't want bright white and I don't want something creamy. I think the gray really makes it work. And it shares a violet undertone. And the LRV is pretty much exactly what I want.

Thoughts on this pairing? It actually matches Andersen white very close.

If you want a crisper, modern look, then Decorator’s White is perfect.

If you prefer a softer, warmer look , then White Dove might be better.

I'd honestly say the opposite. DW is more gray and with WT creates a classic look. White Dove is more white white in daylight and more modern. White Dove has a higher LRV and is more white than a lot of people realize.

Actually, with Waynesboro-Taupe I am not in love with either Decorators White or White Dove.

White Dove isn't bad, but more yellow/green than I would want with Waynesboro Taupe. Decorators white is too gray. They have less than 1% difference in their LRV, so they are both going to appear white white as an exterior color. Lacey Pearl is a bit less white and is closer in hue.

@Celery. Visualization, Rendering images I stand corrected. My sample was bad. I just got a pint of White Dove to get actual paint. It's pretty good. Looks more like what I thought DW did. It matches Andersen white very close. It's the front runner right now.

@Jennifer Hogan Thanks DW is actually a lot more white than white dove funnily enough. The gray i nthe white dove pairs with the waynesboto. Lacey Pearl is nice but it's too creamy to match my windows. i do like LP but it is more dingy - less architectural and I did look i nthat direction early on. I think white dove would just be safer so far. LP also has a kind of red undertone and it doesn't pair well with refined taupes.

If you don't want a bright white next to a darker mid tone siding, I would recommend that you choose a lower LRV.

This is a good blog post with lots of true life examples of white trims colors.

Most people don't realize just how much whiter whites appear in natural daylight.

As for what goes with Waynesboro Taupe, I will advise you not to go too yellow/green. White Dove's hue is much more yellow than Waynesboro Taupe

I know that undertones are hard for people to see, but this is a color map of Waynesboro Taupe and White Dove. Do you really love those colors together? White Dove is light enough that a lot of people don't notice the undertone. But it isn't the best combination.

BM selected several different colors that they believe work well with Waynesboro Taupe / Ashley Gray. They did pick Lacey Pearl and Sand Dollar because the hues are within a couple of degrees from one another.

Distant gray is a true gray - almost no color, similar to Decorator's white. Their hue doesn't matter because they all converge at gray (Chroma of 0). Both of these colors have a chroma of 1. not enough to color for us to see.

The highest hue they pick as a coordinating color is Winds Breath, with a hue of 96. Squarely in the yellow hue, not into the yellow green hue.

Here are a list of colors between Sand Dollar and Wind's Breath that I would test.

If Lacey Pearl is too pink for your taste - move it up a bit to Balboa Mist, Pale Oak or Classic Gray.
