window treatment ideas for kitchen

last year

I recently installed new windows and I’m not sure what to use for window treatments. I want something that’s light filtering that we could just use for privacy at night time. I am thinking Roman shades because I prefer a minimalist look but I’m just not sure. Would love to hear suggestions!

It appears the cooktop is located under the window, therefore you have to consider the 'cleanability' of the covering. If there is space on the window sill and you are not trying to block the view or light, a simple rectangular planter with various herbs at your fingertips would be a good solution. Find a container that would allow you to place several smaller containers inside. Often herbs require different amounts of light and water; also as they are used up or begin to wane, you can simply lift out one single pot and easily replace it. Fresh herbs make the difference in a good cook and a great one!

I would add inside mount, top down/bottom up bamboo blinds for some added texture. These come in a variety of colors, a clean finish, easyily controlled.

We have light filtering roller shades. They are perfect for a bit of privacy, light blocking when super sunny and also for warmth in winter. When open you barely see them. Ours are white as our frames are white but you could do black.

Zebra Blinds could be an option.

The zebra blinds look awful when seen from outside and horizontal "bars" don't enhance any interior decor either. Some things should never have been invented!

Roman shades could work on the window above the sink and on the doors.

A Roman shade with some colored pattern for the kitchen window! White textured semi sheer curtains( like linen) for the door and window and hang at same height.

@terrib962 Wow. Don't hold back; how do you really feel? Rather unnecessary comments.

Yes, terrible962, such ridiculous hateful comments! Patricia asked for help only with choosing window coverings. You need to allow others to have their own preferences without attacking them. BTW, I agree with Lyn Nielson about the bamboo shades adding warmth, texture, and a natural element.

Our kitchen has a similar look. I have roller shades. Love them!

@Patricia Exactly. I’ve also been the recipient of terrib962’s rude comments on questions I’ve posed. I just figured terrib was short for terrible

I like the idea of simple linen roman shades that was suggested, they will add some softness but not compete with other elements in the room

I have zebra blinds in 2 houses and love them. Most of my neighbors have them too, and we are on a walking trail and they look fine from the outside. However, I would not put them above a cooktop—I think the roller shades are the best choice.

Your kitchen and windows look great. You may find the article below helpful regarding window treatments.

Suggest an easily adjustable style (over the stove especially).

Duplicate that modern and light feel on the large window.

An idea if interested, painting the patio doors black will unify the space.

What did you decide? This post is 5 mos old, and i liked several ideas. Just wanted to add two cents about any treatment that can billow inward with breeze while the stove is on. Natural fabrics, like linen while most beautiful might not be compatble for use near a stove. Given all that, i think the idea of small, garden pots in a longer clay container with the bamboo blind retracted most of the time valance- like, during hours you'l be cooking wiuld look great. That would allow you to treat other window with up from bottom and down from top bnoo if you like the look and even sneak on some light curtains if you find yourself wanting them.

Beautiful home.
