Old cotton gin turned into a house (color advice)

This house was once a cotton gin (late 1800’s) that was cut in half and moved to this location back in the 80’s. It has had several owners. We are in the process of making it into our lake home (the lake is just down the road). We will be adding a 30x 60 building to the right of the house that will look like a barn. It will serve as a workshop, office, and storage for our boats. We will be adding an addition on the left side of the house that will be about 900 square feet. The shake is not original to the cotton gin and we would have difficulty matching the color for the addition, so we plan to stain it with a solid stain in a color. We are thinking Hale Navy and would paint the windows White Dove. We are considering Kendall Charcoal for the barn. Color is not my strong suit, so I wanted to reach out for advice/thoughts.

Natural cedar shingles with a 50/50 mix of Cabot Bleaching Oil & Weathering STain. Will all look the same in a few years and during the process will look absolutely fine. I would not stain them solid (essentially paint).

I wouldnt do charcoal on the barn with hale navy on the house. I would either have the barn the same color as the house, or since it is a barn, I would be considering a rustic red color, that has been used on barns, for years and years.

I think Hale navy is too dark. I'd do a lighter color. I'd go with Old blue jeans, but even Kensington blue, would be better than Hale Navy. I'd make sure your charcoal for the barn goes well. One way to do this is to look at the recipe. Paint colors are pigments added to white paint. Often black is one. You want a charcoal that uses the same black pigment as the house paint and the same white, if there are more than one whites. When colors are made from the same pigments, they tend to look good together.

We have Kendall Charcoal on our 1910 home restoration and on the separate shed/ studio in the back garden.

It is a beautiful color . No way would I ever choose another color for the ” out building”. Cohesiveness is the optimal choice. Everything should blend beautifully. No standouts. 🙏

Thank you everyone for your help thinking things through and your advice. I should mention that we plan to add a craftsman style porch to the front of the house.
