Rotten wood vs leaf mould

I have come across a dead sycamore and the soil beneath it is filled with its dead roots that have completely rotted into the area.
I think I will gather up what seems to be effectively quite a lot of
fine compost and incorporate it into next year's strawberry bed which I am building now.
What ,though would nomally be the best use for this?
Compost for a seed bed?
And how does this stuff differ from well rotted leaf mould?(I doubt either are particularly nutritious per se -or do I have that wrong?)
