Hi, the siding on part of our house has not been kept up and the wood is now quite dry and leached out. I remember from a previous home that we used creosote on leached out wood shingles and then thinned down waterbased semitransparent outdoor wood stain by adding water to it, which really helped the stain getting absorbed into the dry shingles (instead of creating a coat on top of the wood which then peels off after a while). We gave 2 coats of that thinned down version and, when restaining the house 10 years later, were able to use the regular, unthinned stain without that it peeled off. I don't want to use creosote any more ;) so I am wondering if I should go right ahead with the thinned-down stain or if I should first apply a different wood preservative? Thanks for your thoughts!
