Curious why you have an area rug on top of the carpet. From my own experience, that would be a tripping hazard.

Large art with a plant and maybe a low bench would provide a great view from the sofas.

I been thinking about getting rid of the rug.

Judging from your picture, I don't think the rug does anything for the room, I would remove it.

What functions occur in this room? Does anyone watch tv? If so, wouldn't that wall be a good place for a wall mounted tv? If no tv is required I will second the advice for a very large and dramatic piece of art.

Removing the rug, replace the ottoman with a wood table to give warmth to the room, replace the accent pillows for neutral ones, install side curtains with bamboo/natural fibre roman shades on the windows, lamps on end table, add 2 poufs for extra seating when needed, replace the ceiling fan for a newer style...

To coordinate with the proposed changes to you living room, I suggest you paint the fireplace wall the same beige as the rest of the room including the 2 bookcases.

Just saw your post on your kitchen go by and realized you are the same person who recently posted this living room. If you're making changes to a few adjoining rooms it would be nice that you do it all in the same post so that everything is coordinated. I had done this for your kitchen...

Consider moving the TV to the wall next to the stairs, mounted at a better viewing height and closer to seating for more optimal viewing. Put some vibrant art above the fireplace instead.

I would move the whole sofa so it is center on the inner two windows, move the tv to the wall the mirror is on, the room will be more cozy and the FP and stand alone while the tv becomes less of a distraction above it. add an armchair to complete the conversation circle and add a sofa table behind the exposed part of the sectional. The rug isnt great in the room as the texture is too close to that of the wall to wall carpet.

This is what I'm suggesting for your entryway. Paint the front double doors black with roman shades on the windows. An area rug that also coordinates with the carpeting on the stairs. I would replace the picture above the console table for a larger one that would hang lower, closer to the table than the one you now have. I chose a black pendant with a touch of Indian style to coordinate with the console table you have.

What a terribly dim bland foyer. That ceiling light fixture needs to be replaced.

I really like the third light fixture and the painting we will move lower this weekend. You think a round rug would look good or stick to rectangle? Also I was thinking of a natural / beige rug… or will that be too blah?
