Thanks, Jan. Actually just did that charcoal thing in primary remodel- brazilian slate look on floor and 2 x 2 matching in shower. Was wanting something a bit different. You're right- there's only so many ways to go!

The tile store I visited have tiles to go with your vanity. They have an ivory or cream background with a touch of your vanity color.

I was shown porcelain Calcutta gold and I found Mystic ivory by Marazzi.

IMO simple 12 x24 porcelain in a neutral color for bathroom floors and shower walls is my go to. I use the same color and tile only smaller for the shower floor all matching grout and done It keeps the background simple and allows a wall change when anted and the same for accessories no huge issue just a simple shopping trip for a change. I really disike small tiles on shower walls they have way too many grout ines and certsinly IMO do not add character at all. Why not keep it simple and do a nice wall color .

I get why 12 x 24 would make it less grout, but somehow reminds me of every bathroom in Walmart, TJ Max, etc.

I like TJ Maxx. Haven't been to one in quite a while, though, so I wouldn’t know what the bathrooms look like these days. :)

But I do get what you’re saying.

Personally, at this point, I cannot handle anything that looks like a wanna be marble or a Taj Mahal, etc. So if I had that, I would likely just never go into the bathroom. That would solve that problem... but might create other problems (especially if no other bathrooms are available in the place :)

TBH, if I were going to switch out to one of those, I’d prefer to just keep the travertine. I don’t have a problem with travertine. But that is my personal take on it - and ONLY my personal take on it. Lots of people love the marble-esque stuff, etc.

With your wood vanity (which is great, btw) - I would either do a very simple/plain/ unassuming/no personality cream/beige/or white tile that is just there-

I did not say that you should keep the travertine. I think I presented other options as well.

I would tell you find a local source, with the widest rack display of Daltile you can.

You'll find a ton of Porcelain, large format multiple sizes and to include mosaic match for a shower floor. Multiple colors,neutrals and more.

I found beautiful floor tiles on Tilebar.com. They will send 5 samples for 5 and they’re great to work with. I saw a few porcelain ones,that would look great with your vanity.

FYI - grout has greatly improved over the years. Personally, I never had an issue with mildew or stains on the white grout that was used with the 4x4 tiles in my daughters' (one was very neat and the other was very messy) bathroom (and that grout was from 1996!). If you have good humidity control, any white grout on the walls shouldn't be an issue.

However, if you are dead set against using white grout, you can use Mapei's warm gray in place of white grout with basically any tile. It goes with everything (obviously, if you select a dark tile, you'll want to get a close matching grout - I'm referring to light tiles where white grout would be a normal selection for the tiles).

I also don't like using the same 12x24 tiles on the floor + running them up the shower walls. When you made the TJ Maxx comment, it made me laugh (even though I haven't been to a TJ Maxx since college maybe? - but I understand the "look" you're explaining).

You've listed the colors that you don't want to use in the room - do you have any inspiration photos of bathrooms that you like to help give us some direction?

Dani thanks for your helpful comments and willingness to help! Because monitors and lighting and photos online never accurately depict color, Im not sure that will help. I can tell you that today I shopped and it seems like very warm gray or browner taupe might be the way to go. Its hard when you dont care for marble looks or speckly tile or tile that looks dirty to me (concrete look). Heres one inbrought home and with my warm varied tone zellige look tile it could work? My vanity color isn’t this orange- its the darn light and camera.

It looks creamy-ivory on my monitor. If that is the color, I would go for it. What color grout will you use?

A black hexagon tile with black grout would be nice with the vanity. Add a rug so it'll be warm underfoot when you get out of shower.
