Mostly shade with hot afternoon sun

last year

I find this condition to be my most difficult in terms of plant selection. Working on re-doing a bed with this kind of exposure and looking for plant suggestions. What do you grow in this situation? Day lilies do not bloom well here and the macrophyla hydrangea wilted in the afternoon sun, (it's been moved to a shadier location). Black Eyed Susan's do well, but grow a bit taller than others as I think they want even more sun. Would like some plants that are more about their foliage than flowers as well as flowering beauties.

Thanks,

SB
