Kitchen table matching chairs

last year
last modified: last year

Hello. I am working on updating stuff here and there at home. My kitchen table in the nook area is a light oak with country style chairs that do not go with the rest of my house. I have kept the table due to the honey oak cabinets in kitchen (which decided to keep after I upgraded the kitchen counter and appliances). I am also showing my living room on the other side so you can have an idea of my colors. Question: I want to get rid of the table chairs and keep the table as I love it. I cannot find right light oak color chairs to match and was thinking if I can mismatch the table to the chairs to accent ? I have attached 2 possible chairs I can purchase. I feel oak on oak might still make it outdated. If I select the dark browns, I am afraid it will look weird. Need and opinion or suggestions. Thank you!

    No living room photo posted.

White walls (counters), darker rug (warm up the space), keep the table, stain it darker, and I love these chairs.

Your kitchen could easily support black chairs. I think that this would look better than trying to match stain colors.

Paint the legs and apron of the table black, and get black chairs.

IMO why wood at all, maybe some nice colored chairs in a totally different style . For me an uograde to the lighting and a good declutter in that kitchen would be a better way to improve the space

Why wood?--because she likes the table. And it works in her traditional kitchen.

We did similar. Painted base of antique table, got rid of the matching chairs and replaced with black wishbone chairs to modernize the look

That country style table and chairs finish is just enough off from the cabinets to look like a mistake. I would contrast the table and chairs and stay away from 'country'.

    That looks great, SM.

For your style, you still haven't posted any living room pictures but here's the look of your table with the apron and legs painted black. @S M's wishbone chairs would look very nice with the table.

Before I bought anything new I would consider painting the table white. It will visually connect with the countertops. Or try a white table cloth for a few weeks before commiting to paint. Maybe some fabric chairs in the future. There is too much wood in these 2 rooms. I would break it up with a painted table, fabric chairs, and a low pile area rug under the table. (I would not add black unless you want a high contrast dramatic effect)

Thing is, the table and chairs MATCH perfectly. The chairs you've suggested don't look nearly as good as what you have -- your table has a country vibe, whereas the chairs you're considering do not. Maybe ladder-backs? They're a classic.

I also agree with those who are suggesting that you paint the chairs; it'd give the eye a break from wood-tone, and it'd give you a new look.

I feel oak on oak might still make it outdated.

Outdated is a silly concept. Go with a style you like /a style that matches the house.

Consider modern leather white upholstered chairs with legs stained the same finish as your table. White echoes your modern counter stools, countertops ,and pendant. Upholstered chairs will be more comfortable and also upgrade the dining set since you have such an ornate pendant. Down the road, think about a more modern, less formal pendant since the one you have is more suited to a separate dining room.

That kitchen is generic and can be whatever she wants nothing is saying traditional to me and IMO if that is the style she wants then the chairs she has are best.

I'd say raised panel cabinets are quite traditional. As is the table, which she likes. She doesn't like the chairs, so it matters not if anyone thinks they are "best." Personally I think black Windsor chairs would look great with the table.

These are a more modern take on Windsors:

Hi, I also want to put out clear chairs as an option as the clear matches with most colors and styles! We have seen many clear chairs in both classicly styled as well as modern styled kitchens.
