Surprises in the garden

Its been a busy couple of weeks getting plants planted or moved. All the new to my garden daylilies arrived and planted in the new space and doing good so far. I moved out to the new bed space 4 so far. Yesterday while out at Tractor Supply I spotted some very nice large pots of Lavender plants so of course I had to buy a couple.The deer so far have not touched any of my lavender plants that I've had here since we moved in. Knock on wood.

One of two surprises I had when cleaning and prepping the gardens was I found that Spring Mystique sent up a scape. It was the only daylily that did not bloom during its "normal" bloom time. Maybe I'll get to see it blooms before the first frost. The second surprise was Boundless Beauty has 2 rebloom)?) scapes coming up. I doubt I'll see it bloom given they are just starting to come up.

Yesterday I found another daylily that had a scape coming up so I had to remove the top of the cloche. This is Busy Being Fabulous.

I think all this rain we've had over the last couple of days is restarting the garden. Today we are suppose to start a period of sunny weather again.

Nice to hear about the great progress you made. My gardens have had many mantis this year, I’m guessing thats good.

I hope you see those blooms before the weather takes them…..it’s good to know you got the correct plants.

I had my last bloom yesterday on Olfactory Evidence, it beat Autumn Minaret for last bloom of the season.

I think the brown form of the Praying Mantis is due to age. Older ones go brown, which makes sense given the date............Here's a "duh" moment. I've never really thought about how long it takes for a daylily to go from scape to bloom. When is your average first frost date?...............Maryl

I bet you will see blooms on Spring Mystique before your first frost, and maybe some on those Boundless Beauty scapes too. No mantises here.

Maryl:Our first frost is anywhere from mid October to end of October. Our weather has gone from one extreme to the other so I just stick with mid October.

Debra: I do hope to see Spring Mystique bloom but contemplating cutting the scapes off on Boundless Beauty. BTW, Dearest Valentine was moved and I was impressed with 10 fans it had. I don't plan to divide it till I see how it does in its new spot.

Sherry: Hope your health issues are better and your garden is getting some rain.

No gardening today. We are getting more rain which started late yesterday afternoon with a thunderstorm and has been raining off and on here and should continue for the next several days.

Your plants look healthy and green! We were so dry for so long that most of mine went into summer dormant mode! For the first time I can remember I have no rebloom scapes in September.

Debra: Not sure if this is suppose to be rebloom or a delayed scape but I'll take it. I've never had scapes come up this late in the season here.
