I want to paint the tray a light blue but the entry has blue wallpaper, and the sectional is almost the same color as the wallpaper Would it

be too much blue? Any suggestions for another color?

My first thought was a blue until I read your description. Now I am stumped. If you had other colors to work with from a rug and throw pillows, then you can picked something from there. I think you need to find those items first and then pick your palette.

You could use the same wallpaper in the tray ...

Whether something, or a repeated color, will be too much is a personal/subjective decision, so take that into consideration when reading the replies.

For me, you already have too much blue, because it is a color I wouldn't use in large quantities! It doesn't mean you can't like it and use it.

That blue seems too dark to me. I'd lighten it by half.

I think the tray in blue would be overkill. Perhaps look at a lighter version of the dining room wall color, which also has some of that color in your accent pillows. When budget allows, get a rug for the sectional space to better ground it and perhaps tie with the tray ceiling when color is decided.

Glad you like the pic. It's Sherwin Williams Rest Assured, but I wouldn't trust that to be true color since monitor screens show color differently than they really are. Take a pillow with you to Sherwin Williams and select some blues that are in this realm. Then get samples and bring home to see what they look like in your home with your lighting (view at different times of day to make sure you like it all day).

I like the darker shade Emily posted- think it grounds the room. My dining room has a raspberry pink ceiling and my family and living room ceilings are both a shade of yellow so obviously a big fan of ceilings making a room enhancing statement.

There's something a bit off in the colors other posters have shown with the trey ceiling blue. Tray ceilings can really date a house and really are popular any more. That being said I think I will suggest that it remain white like the rest of the ceiling.

I like the blue. So tired of the all white boring look. It should add a lot of interest to the room. I agree, you need a nice rug in there.

Matching the ceiling to the other blues feels really oppressive to me. And highlighting the tray feels like you took a highlighter pen and circled the area over the living room.

I'd find a very pale blue white and paint the entire ceiling including the tray area all the same color. It will highlight your entire ceiling, which will in turn make your tray look beautiful and sophisticated. You will get to appreciate the shape of the tray in a much more subtle way. And, it will help bring together the blues without being quite so literal.
