As I've been working on plans to replace my 70s kitchen, and helping a few friends and family members redo theirs in the meantime, I have noticed that modern cabinets with Euro hinges typically open 105 to 110 degrees. Frankly, I hate this. When I roleplay as if my current kitchen's doors only open that far, the weaving and bobbing around those doors that poke out as I work is quite irritating! At the sink base, at my baking/prep station uppers, at the coffee zone, it really bothers me. I would want them to fold back flat and out of the way when I renovate. My entire adult life I've had older kitchens with exposed hinges and doors that open all the way flat, and I definitely prefer it and utilize the wide opening angle.

Although we don't have a cabinet maker lined up yet, we're likely to use the same local guy who I hired for my mother and he does frameless custom work. Is there any con to requesting Blum 170' hinges (where a wall doesn't limit, anyway) other than they are really large and slightly more expensive? I think all euro hinges are bulky and ugly anyway, but don't really care since they are hidden!
