It does look healthy, but for seventy years it’s a bit smaller than what I’d expect. They’re not exactly fast in the upper midwesr, but they do grow to be grand specimens. I’ve never been to Laramie (Is it Laramie?), but based on some of your past comments, it seems like a challenging climate for trees. Does Bur Oak grow wild there?

I dunno LC. Any reason you'd think it was planted same time as the buildings?

The bur oak is not native here to my knowledge. The nearest it is native to is the Black Hills or central NE river valleys. But they certainly are hardy if given enough water.

beng - That is just my best guess. it is by a bldg that was built in the 1880s and one in the 1950s. There are other bur oaks on campus known to me which I know when they were planted and if you extrapolate their size to this tree the 70 year old age seems reasonable
