Can you say where in the world you found these? And do you have pix of the tree and leaves? Since grapes don't grow on trees I'm not sure what 'a grape tree' looks like. And do you know if they are edible fruit?

Without further info. I'd say they are ginkgo fruit. Did you notice a stench? You should see fan shaped yellow leaves beneath the tree.

I found them in the zone 7 area. U.S. and yes the do have a stench. It looks like if a tree had grapes.
