WHITE, LIGHT WOOD OR BLACK CURIO

last month

I decided to keep this curio even though its not a modern one. But my question is do i strip it to aa lighter wood, paint it white, paint it black. My hubby likes the white since i have painted the doors black in the house. Whats your thoughts? Excuse the mess doing work so i have everything thrown all over

What is the wall color? Consider going down the strip, at least two or as much as four chips. You will have a darker color, but it will marry the wall color (I think white is a little too cute for your scheme and black is too matchy match.)

This inspiration photo, obviously, is not your wall color, but is the contrast I think will work.

It’s a builders color on the walls and i am not sure if im keeping that wall color, considering gray walls even though gray is out

I prefer black also. The white looks a bit washed out.

Black vote here too. I'm not sure about gray walls either looking at the gray in your rug with your floor. But it could be the picture.

Accent pieces like this could wait till you are done with the rest…when you can be sure what accent is needed

Perhaps a softer warmer color that you could paint the table with as well.. could define the area as a cozy spot to dine or have a snack

White. Ties in with kitchen cabinets.

You have quite a few posts, different areas, accents to wall areas, with consoles etc. Now a curio, and do you NEED it, before you go to the effort to paint it?

Is the goal to have a totally grey, white, black home?

Homes are personal, but I'm beginning to feel the chill ? : ) and a palette that's been used for a very looooong time and more times than can be counted? JMO. here.!

. Maybe what you need is something in the kitchen to handle the clutter more than this .

My first thought is to strip the curio down to bear wood and then stain in a medium brown. Second though is to paint it a color other than white or black. there isn't much color in your rooms. So, this might be a chance to introduce some color.

I find the black jarring. I like the white better, it is softer, and the dark framed chairs stand out better.

You are considering painting the walls gray? Why? Not against gray, at all, but there are heck of a lot more than 50 shades, and, with any wall color, you want to consider the natural light coming in the windows. From the photos, it looks like you have windows facing two directions. For example: north/south (warm/cold) a greige (gray/beige)will work well. B.M. Revere Pewter is a very safe choice and acts as a chameleon.

Then I might paint the curio or, leave it as is.

East/west exposure isn't as easy, as east light is fleeting and west light is very warm. I'd go with B.M. Edgecomb Gray. For the curio:

Both R.P.and E.G. work with your floor.

Hi Jan, i moved here 1 year ago model they left curtains, instead of changing the darn curtains i went w the black white but not gray i wanted a sand color. Someone called it a black sand beach look. So iam not use to this color att all but the sofa love seat stays as the dining set . I dont have to keep the curio and wanted new end tables and coffee tables. Oh rug is new also. So i wanted to some how bring a light wood in, but just having a hard time. Yes i need a narrow storage across from kitchen island, i measured posted measurements and i have seen other homes same model with console table in that spot. I originally started with a professional consult online. She suggested the black white sand color. I already have a shore home with blues greens and coastal colors, this home is more of my winter home although i am still 10. Minutes to beach area so wanted a little different. So I just dont want to keep spending good money on furniture that really doesn’t fit. I eyed a direction. Living room needs different tables 2 accent/recliner type chairs and lamps, then decor. Front room is a high top type desk (Ugg hubby liked, i should have left him home, i wanted it as a small sitting area i can use to talk on phone read a book, or just have a little space to get away from the tv he always has on. I liked the buffet type piece you posted with black and caning on front doors. But hard to match the caning to back of dining chairs. I would consider hiring a decorator or consult with someone to get a direction, because i feel like im going in circles. Thank you for your input. Where are you based out of? Any suggestions or directions would help. Thank you.

Norwood, i was originally going to strip it and then try to restrain a lighter shade. That’s what the 1 picture was suppose to represent .

Patricia I am trying to find a narrow piece for under stairs to handle the clutter. Most of that clutter was due to work being done in other parts of house. Any suggestions would help.

Turn the table so the chairs are on the diagonal.

I am not sure the cabinet is needed in the dining room .

Maybe consider a plant, tree in that area, bring in a bit of life. Use the cabinet elsewhere, maybe to hold towels, linens, or sweaters in another room. Then you can paint it whatever color you like or not. I think the cabinet is dated and can be useful somewhere else.

Your inspo pics are light, lots of white. Go with white (or a light color), put in color. Turn the table as Bev suggests

I agree with njmomma…it is a very handy see-thru storage element for the things she mentions …in the dining area it is a challenge as a decor. piece

    I like it black

Also, I do not think another caned piece has to match the DR chair's caning.

It crowds the corner. I’d find another spot for it.

I like the black. It looks good.

I like the black, too…however it was not apparent before that the back was mirrored?…to me that is counter productive …creates a confusion as to what is being displayed

The op is on two threads over two weeks. Needs to get in one thread. So she can get out of her decor woods.
