what can i put on this wall

last month

I would like some sort of storage and isplay unit on this wall under steps. The thermostat is dead center so a tall unit would be difficult. I would like to be able to store wine glasses and holiday dishes in something but also have decorative items.
I was trying to coordinate w dining area, so
Do i use a low unit and put shelves or
Get a tall unit and a shorter unit and
Can i incorporate a light wood or do i use black
Dining set is black and white but would like to bring warmth into room. It’s a black white sand beach look i was going for since im 10 minutes to beach.
Any suggestions would help

Perhaps consider a mural for the wall.

Definitely a short unit with shelves!

Whatever you put there will need to shallow or it will impede traffic so my advice wou;d be no deeper than that bottom step and IMO the whole wall with maybe some glass doors for the things you want to display.

You do not have room. What is the distance, from ISLAND EDGE to the wall?

Suggest measuring the space from doorway to vent so as to maximize the available length. Suggest it be closed in on bottom to accommodate bulky, less used items. To decide on the width, tape out on floor to see what depth won’t interfere/feel too bulky. To accommodate the thermostat, open uppers will solve that. To complement both the kitchen and dining room include black and inject coastal in subtle ways when accessorizing shelves.

Agreed on measurements need to be taken so we know what is available in terms of storage space.

    Thermostats can be moved ...

I had the ones in my family room moved twice before I was happy with the location.

There is no buffet picture, you were asked to measure..........and you have not done that. A link to the buffet and its dimensions as well.

What is the length of the wall? What is the distance, counter top edge, TO that wall.?

The space looks very slim, so storage doesn't seem like it would work there. Perhaps just try a very large piece of artwork, or a gallery wall? You could even look at a very slim console table to go under some artwork, to at least give this space some interest.

jan, you all must have cross-posted, she did post measurements and she is referring to the buffet in Maureen's picture.

Roe, I would tape it out on the floor to see if it will interfere in the walkway. It could be tight when the barstools are being used.

Jan, I posted a pic with measurements and i like a buffet similar to Maureen’s post but does caning on chair need to match buffet.

Here is just an idea of a chair sitting there so something a slight bit narrower would work , i think, what do you think?

    She answers.......

    .......( sorry missed the measure)

The Point of the MEASURE? You never need a chair: ) to guess

18" DEPTH, 48 " LONG, (My own max length would be 54"m, and right side just clears edge of grate .

( 60" will partially cover the grate, not a huge deal, but you do not want it at the very edge of the leading wall.)

Room to pass, back up, not crowd easy below

LITERALLY... anything 18" deep, 48 inches long and keep int 36" high or a bit lower: )

Room to go a tad longer as above

That sounds like a lovely space — I love the black, white, and sand palette! Since the thermostat limits height, a low storage unit would work beautifully. You could balance it by adding a large horizontal artwork above — something abstract or coastal-inspired with warm beige, sandy neutrals, and soft blue tones to bring in warmth and connect with your beach theme. A piece like that would create visual balance and tie together your dining and living areas perfectly.
