What will your floors be? That’s where you start with finishes. If it’s like the wood in the ONLY inspiration photo of a kitchen in your idea book then let us know. Is the plan able to be tweaked at all? I’d have loved to see a much larger window for you even if it meant less overhead cabinets. You seem to have enough aisle space to do the island as shown so that’s good. Drawers as much as possible is always a good thing. Where are you getting your cabinets and counters as that would be the next 2 pieces of the puzzle.

First thought: I think either your numbers are wrong OR your drawing isn't to scale. Your kitchen is 15'5" wide ... so 2' for the cabinets on the wall, 4' walkway, 2' island, and that leaves 7'5" behind the island, which is plenty of walkway space ... but it LOOKS too small in the image.

What doesn't work (at all) is the island. You've drawn it as 2' deep (standard cabinet depth) with 17" drawers and a 6" overhang for stools. Flat-out, this isn't enough. Any island should be at least 3' deep ... but then that would cut into your walking space behind the island. The island is roughly 8' wide, so each stool gets 24" -- again, this isn't enough. No one will be able to get in /out of the middle stools + the stools will never be pushed back, so they'll always be in the way /in a major traffic area. Anyway, won't you have a table literaly within reach of the barstools? What I'd do: Make the island 3' wide and remove the stools ... instead, do 24" deep drawers on one side and 12" deep storage cabinets on the back side. But seriously-seriously, the island, as presented, doesn't work (at all).

You could add a little more length to the island ... you have about 5' between the island and the dishwasher. 4' is enough.

The refrigerator - cabinet w/microwave - stove layout works. Note tht you'll want your glassware to be stored in the cabinet next to the refrigerator ... so your glassware will be stored on an UPPER shelf over the microwave /hard to reach for children (and people like me who are still child-sized). You can put some glassware in an island drawer "behind" the refrigerator ... but it still means you'll be carrying glassware some distance from the refrigerator.

Is it possible to flip-flop the stove and the sink? The sink is the single most-used item in the kitchen, and placing it in the center of the kitchen would be better.

Is that a Lazy Susan cabinet in the corner? That works. Be sure, though, that you get a Super Susan -- no pole in the middle. It's inifinitely better.

Why do you have a cabinet between the sink and the dishwasher? Move the dishwasher over so it's next to the sink, and that'll leave you one good-sized cabinet next to the dishwasher.

Could the window above the sink be enlarged?

At 30" the pantry is pretty deep. If this isn't yet built, I'd cut it down a little /give a little more space to what I think is a half-bath. If it needs to stay 30" deep, I'd consider shelves in the bottom half -- otherwise, you'll never be able to reach things at the back. And lazy susans and baskets in the top half.

Could you make the pantry area in to a cabinet ... a cabinet away from the main work space would be perfect for the coffee pot, a cake under a dome, a fruit bowl. It'd allow people to get a snack without entering the work space. And add a more shallow pantry to the right of the door /next to the dishwasher. This would also remove the problem of the two doors knocking against one another.

I'd want the back door (to the deck) to be glass ... so people will wait a minute if someone's using the pantry (or the new cabinet, if you switch them up).

Where is your trash? Your fire extinguisher? Your spices? Your silverware?

Is this a new build or are you remodeling an existing space? Can windows be modified or moved? (Made bigger?)

While the layout you posted is a start, we really need a fully-measured layout, not partially measured. By "fully-measured", we mean a layout with the widths of each wall/window/door/doorway and the distances between each wall/window/door/doorway labeled. See a sample below. If something cannot be moved or changed, label it precisely on your layout and tell us why it cannot be moved/changed -- we may have some ideas for you.

We also need a sketch of the entire floor the Kitchen is on to help us see how traffic flows in, around, and through the Kitchen.

Please see the "New to Kitchens? Read Me First!" thread, especially the Featured Answer (but don't ignore the top post). It describes the layout and other items plus a few questions. It also includes a sample fully-measured layout.

Mrs Pete I don’t see what you are seeing regarding the island. Looks to be at least 3’ deep. But yes as Buehl said it’s wise to post all of the dimensions.
