I am not trying to brag but I live in South Florida and used wood tile from Porcelanosa in Miami and don't think that it is passé. If you want wood then you should get wood. But what is your dilemma.

Yes, tiles could look like wood until you step on them, then you'll feel the difference on you feet.

Dytecture-she wanted to see if tile look like wood and I wanted her to see that. I have always had tile on my floors in the living room and had laminate in the bedrooms and I had never really noticed the difference walking from one room to another.

so I am under construction in my whole house and have hardwood throughout the whole house but hardwood tile in the kitchen-- sorry for the bad iphone construction pics but you can see them next to each other for comparison- other than the grout lines, it is very hard to tell the difference if you get a high end brand- mine are Barrique. The wood tile was the last part done and if I would have known I would have loved them this much I would have done the whole house in them- I live in Southern California and I would have loved to have done the whole house in wood tiles done in a herringbone pattern with radiant heat underneath. I think these are perfect for warm climates or climates exposed to lots of sand, etc.

Love that Jenny but you will get plenty people on here who will say that it is not or that it is not wood or that it is hard on your feet and back. To each is own I say.

Jenny-That is why I took it out of my bedroom. I went out of town and my bathroom overflowed thanks to my daughter. I could not deal with that again. I will eventually put the wood tile in the whole house, here in FL it is quite normal to see tile in houses. Granted it is harder to change out but as you said to each is own but I did use Porcelain wood tile unlike when I moved in years ago I used ceramic. People always talk about things breaking if it falls on wood tile but way I look it will break if it falls on wood too. But what will do I know.

If you decide to use the wood-look tile, just be sure to use grout that is either the color of the tile or a little darker. In real hardwood floors any gaps between the boards are usually in shadow and darker than the wood stain, so matching or just slightly darker grout will make the wood tile look more realistic.

Perhaps what is more current now, is tile flooring that isn't just 12x12 squares like in the past. Looking like wood is maybe not as important as the shape of the tile, and the pattern laid.

They may look the same to... Stevie Wonder.

How these differ from ones that look less "real" is that they have a square profile (not beveled), and are ground to permit them to be close-laid. They are not meant to have large, visible grout lines.

We live in Margate NJ. We decided to use tile that looks like wood, and added radiant heat for the winter months. Yes, the floor is hard, but it can withstand anything ! Very durable ! Most people think it's wood until we tell them it's tile.....good luck
