Master Bedroom Makeover

Hello Everyone
The bed and armoire will be the only things I am keeping as is.
I would need suggestions on changing the wall color and night tables color as well as new bedding. I prefer a warm palette and leaning towards creams with an accent color, not sure between blue or greens.
Thanks for your help. Very appreciated.

I think cream makes a great wall color. Interior paint lasts for decades, but things like duvets wear out. So, it makes sense to put your color in the bedding, not the walls. Next, I'd go shopping for a great duvet or duvet color and build your room around that.

I like big, bold flowers. Rifle Paper Co. Peacock Sateen Duvet Cover

You could then do some navy nightstands, if you didn't want to keep your existing ones. Then get some art.

I'd get some sheers for your windows, too. Makes the look more dressed.

Thank you all , great advice.
Was also thinking of refinishing night tables, would leaving them a natural wood Color instead of dark be too many woods with the dresser and floor. If so I’m indecisive about making them cream or blue.
    Have a blessed day!

When doing a master bedroom makeover, it’s all about balancing restful comfort, storage, and visual harmony. First up, start with your focal point, often the bed wall. You could elevate it with a textured headboard, accent wall (wallpaper, wood slats, plaster relief), or overhead soffit lighting to draw the eye and ground the space. Around that, layer in ambient + task lighting , wall sconces for reading, a dimmable overhead light, maybe LED cove lighting if you want a soft glow.

For furniture layout, avoid pushing everything flush to the walls. Float the bed (if space allows) or allow walking clearance on both sides (~ 60–90 cm) so it doesn’t feel cramped. Use low-profile bedside tables so the headboard remains dominant. If you need a dressing area or workspace, tuck it into a corner or use multifunctional furniture (bench + storage, built-in drawers under windows, etc.).

On finishes, pick a calming palette, soft neutrals, muted tones, or deep, cozy colors (like dusty blue, warm gray, muted sage), and contrast textures (linen, velvet, wood, matte vs gloss) to keep it from feeling flat. Use area rugs to anchor zones (bed seating, dressers). And don’t forget window treatments , layered curtains + blinds help with privacy and light control, and also soften the room acoustics.

I would probably select a rug first, one with some pattern and color. Then choose bedding and wall color to coordinate. Alternatively, you could select the bedding first to set your color palette and then get a rug and wall color to coordinate.

You might create an Ideabook of bedrooms that you like to focus in on your style.

Here's a neutral palette. Details that add serenity to the bedrooms:

    --Lovely art over the bed

--Soft patterned rug that echoes the art

--Room darkening shades and drapes flanking the windows.

--Soft lamps on side tables. Elegant pendant light

I always like the LOOKS of an iron bed but not the practicality of really no headboard. Maybe start with finding bedding you love and use that for wall color ideas and even might give you a bit of style to go for. Some large pillows to have in front of the headbord would help with a more cozy feel too. I love drpes in bedrooms it add to the cozy feel. You ned a bit larger night tables and then lamps that work with the new tables and bedding style . Take your time and for me I always start with bedding.

You have a very attractive bed.
It lends itself to having blankets or other bed linens draped over.
You may wish to adjust the height of the nightstands.
It is more comfortable to have the nightstand surface at the same level as top of the mattress.
So much easier and safer to access and place items with minimal or no up /down arm movements.
Do try it out before making your final choice!

    Start with your inspiration picture:

    1. Decide on striping, painting or replacing the nightstands (consider dresser as well).

    2. Normally suggest starting with a rug to drive colors and a look, but suggest starting with the bedding as the bed‘s style has to be catered to in order to make it feel cozy and less dated.

    3. Paint: bring home tester pots of soft neutral shades and narrow down; considering the bedding and how the light affects its shade.

    4. Accessorizing: suggest a simple natural fibre rug (the larger the better - try Ikea), a nice chandelier, bedside lamps, cushions, and some pictures.

    5. At some point: consider updated window treatments (look on line for inspiration). If tv could go by the window, adding a mirror over dresser would be much nicer.

Leave the nightstands in their natural finish. Stained wood takes so much more abuse without showing the signs.

I agree that saving photos of bedrooms that appeal to you will show you what you want. Then build from the ground up. There are fewer “perfect rugs” around. Bedding can be found in any color.

I agree that iron beds aren’t as comfortable something more solid. A cane headboard with wood trim will hold up well.

The night stands can stay wood, or you can paint them. If done properly, the paint will hold for years. My mahogany nightstands were bought in 1993. I decided they were still perfect but wanted them to be lighter. I chalk painted them ivory over 10 years ago. Not a single chip.

If you're keeping the iron bed, paint it white with the softest yellow walls. White sheers and I love the blue ticking idea with the yellow walls and yellow throw pillow/throw.
