Paint choice color
I have decided to paint the upper walls in our family room green. Does it look better to leave the area surrounding the fireplace the original off white color? or the same green as the upper walls? The flooring will be redone in a shade to go with mantle color.

10 months agolast modified: 10 months agoTo the left of the fireplace there is shelving? Paint the back walls the same green, as well as the wood trim so the left of the fireplace looks like the right of the fireplace. Hardwood or engineered flooring (not LVT) will be stunning all by itself. So, paint the mantel black.
You haven't addressed the color of the wall above soffit. Consider painting it the ceiling color. It would make the ceiling/wall seem higher. Hope it is photo #1 because painting a horizontal soffit the same color as the ceiling creates a unified look, making the transition smoother.
BTW, love the green. Consider adding pillows on the sofa; accent color a Chinese red.
