Help Styling My 3-Tier Console Table (Modern Minimal Look)

Hi everyone! I’m super new to decorating. My husband and I just bought our first home, and I’ve been slowly trying to figure out how to make it feel more finished.

This is our bay window area with a 3-tier wood console table. Right now it just has a few random pieces I was testing out to see what I like, but it still feels kind of empty and unfinished. I’m going for a modern, clean, and slightly cozy minimalist vibe — think neutral tones, natural light, and a calm aesthetic.

I’d love some advice or inspiration pics for how to decorate it without blocking the window or making it feel cluttered.

Some questions I have:
• What would you put on each shelf (top, middle, bottom)?
• Should I add greenery or keep it more sculptural?
• Would baskets or trays on the lower shelves work or look too busy?
• Any must-have decor items for this kind of setup (books, ceramics, sculptures, etc.)?

I’m still learning what “modern contemporary” really means in practice, so any tips, examples, or links would be amazing. I just want it to look intentional and balanced, not overdone.

I'm confused as to why you're putting a console....right there.... and then don't want to block the window.

What about a backless bench.

I would take that back it is awkward there and really makes no sense. Show us your whole space then you will get ideas keep the ones you like ignore the others . This is waht happens when you ask but better to ask now then when no hope of retuning.

I don't think that is the right piece for that location. I don't like how it overlaps/cuts the lower part of the window.

It seems like the wrong place for a console table. It looks awkward and out of place there. You could do so much better! Maybe shirlpp's idea of a bench there. Or maybe a couple of modern upholstered stools that could be used when you need extra seating.

These are all vintage modern Parson's stools, most from Chairish and $$$ and maybe a little wild for your taste...but they could be that touch of whimsy which would add a lot to a very neutral room.

Definitely not the calm vibe, but they were so cute I had to include them!

Congrats on your new home. I agree that it isn't the right furniture for this location. Perhaps you can put it elsewhere in your home.

I agree with the others that question having it in that room. It seems more practical for a bedroom (and the end of a master bed) or an office.
