Does this room look put together?

I’m wondering about the valance in dining area, do they compliment the curtains in the living area? Is the table behind the sofa too cluttered? I’m open to any suggestions for an inviting and cozy and comfortable look. Thank you!

I think it would be nice with a larger rug and a different coffee table. I don’t think the valence and curtains are adding much to be honest. I think you need more colour added in.

I love your antique pieces. I think the valance is fine, but I’m on the wrong side of 50, so maybe I’m old-fashioned. I’d start with a larger, more assertive rug and more colorful throw pillows. Also, might be time to retire the wall pockets and dried flower arrangements. Do you have any more plates like the one behind the sofa? They might be pretty on the wall.

I hesitate to put end tables because the room is small and has dining and coffee tables, too many tables if I more?

IMO windows seen together should coordinate window coverings so no valance or add one to the LR.. Cozy is mant things to many people . I do not like mirrors that reflect nothing worth seeing twice and never stuff on the wall with a sofa infront where seated people can hit heads so lose the table IMO. You need lighting so either floor lamps or end tables . A coffee table is useless unless reachable from the sofa and in your case I would use the coffee table for one soafa nad end tables for the other . You could for sure use some color and IMO start eith a nice large piece of art on the wall where you have the table behind the sofa. Then use colors from the art to add maybe a colored pillow or 2 .Lok at some rugs with texture and color and lose that tiny lamp in the corner.

I agree with other posters - a larger rug should help pull the room together. Would suggest a rug that has more color and pattern. The furnishing in general seem dated. Would definitely suggest you remove the mirrors above the sofas and replace with artwork. We only suggest mirrors if they have something visually pleasant to reflect.

I agree with Patricia’s comments. You have some interesting pieces - Is that a window or a mirror over sofa close to dining table? If it is a mirror it should not be there. If it’s a window, the sconces really don’t work with that. The sofas see too far apart for a good conversation arrangement. With Patricia’s suggestions, I would remove the sofa near the dining table, place a good reading lamp on the table. Add two chairs in front of that table but not crammed up to the table. You may need a table between the chairs with a lamp instead of putting the lamp on the credenza table. On the other side, an upholstered hassock (with castors) in front of the sofa with an ample tray for holding drinks, and putting your feet up if so inclined.
However - you do have an interesting (antique?) secretary hiding in the corner. Is there a way to incorporate that piece into the room? So buy the pizza and invite strong younger people to help you move furniture and decor around.

Thank you, I feel encouraged and enlightened and I have some fabulous ideas and I appreciate all of them so much!!!

I like your pieces too. I would try to match the window treatments. It looks like you have a deep window sill by the dining room table that you could use to display things like the plate and basket that are behind your sofa.

I bought the picture featured by Beverly…love it! I really like the third rug. Beverly, do you know where I could purchase it, or one similar? We’re on a budget.

Also, we found this rug, but I’m hesitant because it has colors that are not in the artwork, thoughts?

You have many good suggestions--larger patterned rug, no table behind sofa, same curtains in dining area. Just a thought: Have you considered floating one sofa to face the view to create two distinct zones? This is a sectional but same idea. You could then put your sofa table behind the back of the view facing sofa to use as a buffet.

If you give it a try, post a photo of the new layout. Here's how to do it:

--Float the left sofa with sofa table behind it. This will leave you a walkway to the sliders without having to walk through the middle of the living room as you have now--not ideal.

--Center the dining set in its zone. (Down the road, consider installing a pendant over the table to further delineate the dining zone.)

--Move the rocker in a bit to create a conversational grouping.

--Position cabinet, which is now on diagonal, to left of sliders so it faces the new living room configuration straight on.

I will try this, do you think the rug I posted looks nice with the artwork in the other pictures?

You need Ivory throws/throw pillows to tie in the drapes.

Agree with ither comments but mostly here to say the your dog is so cute !!!

That rug is beautiful you found!!!! artwork can change easier if needed

Thanks so much for your input on the rug, and Buster is very cute, I agree!

Overall I think some color on the walls could completely change the feel of the room… it will personalize the space.. and with all the windows you can enjoy the different shadings as the light changes thru the day.

Since you like the good idea of a colorful rug.. that can work as a guide for a wall color…and much of the other interior colors…such as pillows, curtains, throws, even art

Hard to tell without measurements, but have you considered putting the 2 sofas in an L shaped arrangement, rather than across from each other? It could work if the functional slider is on the left side. The one sofa would have its back to the sliders, partly covering them on the right side, but it would be so pleasant to have the sunlight coming over your shoulder as you sit on that sofa. Then put the corner cabinet flat against the wall to the right of the small window. Your traffic path through the room would no be through the conversation area, and the dining table would have more space around it.

Having the corner cabinet moved would also give you room to have a longer curtain rod, which would stack the open drapes on the wall, leaving the full glass exposed.

Thank you, I like this whole idea!!!

Please do a floor plan. It’s a wonderful space with beautiful natural light. 2 big sofas spaced far apart is not ideal. Where does the slider open to give access to the yard?

The slider opens in the middle.😊

In you opinion, does this rug compliment this room?

The rug is colorful and the room is neutrals. I would make sure the background color of the rug goes with the sofas.

If you are looking to add color it could work. Decide on an overall a color scheme and choose colors from the rug for accessories.

I think your glass coffee table would show off the center medallion nicely.

If you can order the smallest version of the rug as a sample, it's easier to return.
