OH thank you. The green pillar oak looks interesting. We have massive columnar red beech in the back. They love it here. A less contrast-y- tree with green leaves up front on the street will look good and blend in nicely. Thanks for the link.

How do vine maples do there? We have a few in our yard and they are quite glorious when full of leaves. They also look pretty as the leaves change. They grow quite quickly

Here's an article from the University of Guelph arboretum staff, with recommendations on native oak trees for urban planting in southern Ontario. Exactly what you're planning to do! They can probably tell you where to buy it too.

How boring I would be the guy who wants my tree out of line. Maples are great but they shed keys in the spring thta root everywhere so be aware of the need to pull those little maples out often. I do love the shade they give . They are tough for sure but zone 6 requires little in the way of cold issues . Can we see your house that IMO has bearing on the size of mature tree you want . BTW not too close to the house either

@Patricia Colwell, ”How boring I would be the guy who wants my tree out of line” Maybe that’s not an option where she lives. i don’t know if I read it right but it sounds like she has to pay for it, get approval from the city & have it planted ”in line with the neighbor’s trees ”. For some odd reason the process sounds cumbersome. Luckily, in my city we were able to request a specific variety ( we picked a redbud ), not only did the city pay for it, thry also did a great job planting it. it took 6 months , lol, but done free for us so i can't complain
