We plan to buy a runner along our walnut kitchen island. We have size flexibility to order a custom size. My question is about the “proper” length in our scenario as the kitchen wall/counter (in blue) is longer than the island. Do we:

1. Get a shorter runner to provide protection for the sink, dishwasher, rangetop area and leave the remaining floor between island and kitchen wall uncovered?

2). Get a runner the entire length of the island?

3). Get a runner the entire length of the kitchen wall (blue) which would mean the runner extends beyond the length of the island on both sides?
