Frame or no frame

I am trialing some art in my home. If I was to acquire it should I frame it or not? There are a couple of frame samples on the upper corners of one of the pics - a natural frame piece and a black one.

Frame if you keep. i think artwork always looks better if framed, with a few exceptions .

Hello, Susan. Fellow homeowner and interior design enthusiast (not professional) here. FWIW: I like the art, agree you should frame it, and of those two frames, I like the darker one.

Frame it. I like the lighter frame better. The darker frame punctuates it too much. To my eye, the painting seems to want to pour off and beyond the canvass. I find the black too confining. The wood makes it feel a bit more limitless. Wood also adds more variety and texture to the room. Black is just another black rectangle too similar to your other framed pieces.

Not loving the art. To me it looks like a dead plant after the first snowfall/frost, and I like more color/life in my art!

I usually like a beefier frame, but the art is already big enough for over the sectional, so you don't have much room for a larger frame.

    Sorry........must......joooosh : )

The lack of contrast, color, and better mix of shapes, proportion making me....jooosh,

A WARMER deeper paint, even gray

Can't pick your art, could you have some color?

Lighting - the ceiling wheel feels like obstruction, maybe belongs elsewhere.

You need some LAMPS ; )

All the light can't be on your roof! It's harsh, chilly

MAYBE...though I love sisal... a little boost down there?

    Warm up the couch...!!!

    ^^

Hope I'll be forgiven but for EVERYONE hung up on these totally neutral schemes with oatmeal , gray, brown ...more oatmeal , more GRAY.......

They take some fairly serious design skill They need layers, textures, tones, pale and intense. It helps to have a home with really great windows, good bones, a ton of light.

I am politely attempting to say.if you do not have that, and all of everything is in these tones in your suburban spec?? Your room goes to zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Thank you for all the suggestions! This room was furnished with the assistance of a professional decorator; albeit, it was 9 years ago and I understand that trends change. I am planning a large floor lamp and I also have a large plant that also goes in this room during the winter months. I am also planning to punch some color with pillows once I’ve picked the art! This room is a very large and very bright southern exposure second floor family room - over the garages and 2 steps down from the bedrooms. The ceiling is very tall - 12 feet. The couch is also very long 112inches. I’ll add another pic that shows the windows. Unfortunately, they are higher up the wall - not much I can do about that…

A well placed middle-to large sized green plant would help soften things up.

I frankly am relived to see a nice room that doesn’t feel lile a paint by numbers forumla for color coordination. I dig your art. Doesn’t feel like something bought simply to match your decor.

What a room that is interesting to view and to be within?. Make sure all of these elements are represented in your room.

Go you love the art ? If so then a simple dark frames IMO works to make the art standout then add some depth to the space with darker accents like pillows or a beautiful throw

Framed and because the art is so muted, I think the lighter frame will get lost, while the black will better define it and draw the eye. Be sure to include darker cushions to create a coordinated, layered feel. Black will also tie in well with the other dark items in the room.
