Basement Reno - TV area layout help!

We live in a ranch home and are finishing our basement which will double our square footage (yay!). I’ve designed the entire layout thus far but now I’m a little stumped with how I want to orient our main living/family area. The first photo was taken from the stairs and I had planned on the couch between the two posts (101” apart) facing the tv which will be mounted to the brick wall (129” from brick wall to posts). The room is wider than it is longer. I planned a wet bar with cabinets and counter space in the right bump out nook area. And to the left a table. The room off of that will be a separate play area for the kids. The second photo was taken from the play room looking out into the family/tv area (stairs are to the right).

Today my husband threw a wrench into my plan by asking why we can’t mount the tv in the nook area and orient our living space facing that direction. I feel like I’d rather keep to the original plan and use the width of the room and keep the open feel but he thinks the couch would be too close to the tv. I want an immersive experience so we were planning a 75” tv. Can I get everyone’s opinion on the layout of the space, how best we should orient the tv zone and if my dimensions aren’t a good idea (size of tv compared to couch placement), etc. thanks in advance!!!

Pics are okay but without a to scale plan there is no way to understand what you are planning. It sounds good but we need to see the floor [plan to scale , use graph paper to make it easier . Show every window doorways where those lead and every measurement clearly marked . Is there a bathroom ? I see what looks like an exit to outside on that one wall so show that too and the size . Post that here in jpeg format in a comment and now all things related to this space are dealt with here in comments

Hi Patricia - thank you so much for the direction! I’m including the basement layout with dimensions attached. I’ve marked the location of the posts with dimensions to the walls. Appreciate any and all guidance!

I see that it is helpful but where is tha opening to the outside ?I would not put the TV in the bumpout since that totally controls the size of TV and IMO go big and maybe down the road even bigger . Not sure what the reason was for the bump out but I would probably use it for storage for anything needed for the media space with doors that kind of diappear. I wills ay we had a bar in pur MCM walk out basement space it was hardly ever used except for drinks and no one ever sat on the stools I did however think a sDW would have been grat in the space since in the summer all action was at the pool or the outdoor kitchen/ dining . The bedrooms are for family or guests ? I hope the windows are egress ones for sur e. I do not see a window in the play room FYI. and do you rally want the office next to the playroomJust looking agin at the pics I see what I thought was a doorway to outside is the mechanicl room. Can we see a space with the windows seems to be very few in that large space . IMO you start by finding the perfect spot for the TV then laying out the seating will be obvious . I do suggest sofas and chairs not a sectional so you have options down the road . Is there a wy to do a access to outside ? I love natural light in basements to jkeep them from feeling like dungeons so even like high long windows like transoms are helpful to get natural light .So like this type not for the bedrooms where egress is a must but the rest like the play room and the main part

Yes, everything is to code, egress windows in the bedrooms. They will be for my kids. The office is off the playroom since I still want line of site to my kids the pocket doors are glass doors since there’s no ability to add windows to the main family space so the only natural light will be flowing in through my office windows, through the glass pocket doors. Here’s a picture that looks through the playroom into my office where you can see the windows. And you are correct, no exterior doors in the basement. That was the mechanical room in the original picture. I have more than enough storage already off the mechanical room and under the stairs. I wanted as much square footage as possible for the main living space.
