Rug under kitchen table?

I feel like my kitchen table needs grounded. I have an odd layout with this half wall. I could add a light fixture but would rather not. Would a rug help? Also struggling with size and shape. Round would be tough as the table wouldn't be centered without pulling the table farther out.. any suggestions? Thanks!!

    The table is 42 inches...

Your space looks great. I think the pony wall is the issue. I would get a quote for removing it and patching the floor… it may be a worthwhile expense.

I think an area rug would crumple / get wrinkled when pulling chairs in and out.

I agree a rug could end up being a hassle. Can't remove the pony wall. The great room is a step down..

Then I’d do a light for sure!

Another vote for no rug, agree it will visually clutter up the space. Plus if you normally sweep the floors or use a floor duster rather than vacuum, you'd still have to bust out the vacuum to clean the rug -- that would be a hassle for me.

    Would you consider vinyl?

A member here has one in her beautiful kitchen.

    It’s from Hudson and Vine

I checked out the hudson & vine site - extremely cool rugs! They might be exactly the ticket for Lisa. Some of them come in rounds too!

I'm kinda thinking a rug would be a hassle. And possibly tripping. Wondering about a tall battery operated lamp? Cheaper than an electrician!

Hanging light is the only kind of light I’d have over the table, Did you look at the vinyl rugs & read the reviews? They’re very low & flat, That’s why I thought they are such a great idea, A floor cloth is different than a rug. Not sure about size though, Maybe the size you’d need for all chairs to stay on rug when pulled away from table would be too large for space, Measure & mock up for sure, Either way, no floor lamp IMO.

No rug. It is already too crowded feeling in here and this will make it moreso.

How many people in your household and how many will sit here regularly? If no more than 2 then remove 2 chairs. Remove the placemats and the glass dome. Less is more, and it is the busy feeling that is partially contributing to this space feeling less grounded.

Thanks everyone! Decided on a light fixture. Thoughts on something similar to the island or would you do something totally different? And thank you again!! Love ChatGPT!

I would try a different style

Maybe a different style but I like that these lights that are so close together are the same style. I’d look at other styles for all 3 lights before deciding. The one over the table will be seen from more vantage points so consider that - what do you want to see from the adjacent room & how will the changed lighting affect that room - when the over table light is on especially.

Thanks! I don't want to change the island lights. I like them.. I added a photo from the great room.
