I need to see your house but I usually avoid muntins or keep the grids simulated not between the glass . I think colonial homes built in the 90s can sometimes lean more toward a simple exterior with minimal grids and just double hung windows

I don't like the grids between glass - they never look right to me because the depth and reflection is wrong. I like grids on windows, though with that type of architecture, but I'd rather have a removable grid (for easier cleaning) than a GBG. Simulated divided lights are still better.

Grids are a part of the Colonial style. Large expanses of glass without seldom see appropriate in a Colonial style home.

Context is key. Show the home, not all "colonials" need to have grids. Depends on many factors, none of which you have provided any incite into.

With some homes they have the grids in the upper sash but not the lower sash.

I am not a huge fan, but some houses, especially with the less busy pattern, they work on the front.

I'd still do no grids on the back.
