What color to paint console

i am considering moving console from family room to kitchen area for food server because i dont have a kitchen island. My kitchen cabinets are light gray with white quartz countertop. What would be a good color to paint the console. should i use a neutral light color or something with a little drama to pop the furniture thank you

I understand you’re being creative at repurposing an existing piece you already have. But, I’m not seeing what you are. My first question is on placement of what looks like a very long & too low for buffet use piece. Where does it fit into kitchen? Or, will it be outside kitchen under that curved counter? Still looks too long. The mirrored doors don’t seem right style for use either. More info please.

Thank you so much. My plan was to repurpose the console (105 inches long x 17 inches deep and 38 inches tall) and put it under the windows/door where the dining chairs and table are now located — which is about 10-12 feet away from the curved island — for food serving purposes i understand the mirrors are not exactly kitchen friendly but i also have grids that can be connected to the front of each mirror. The area I i plan to place it in is about 12x12. i have a larger space adjacent to the area in which to move the table and chairs. so sorry for the confusing. Its sort of hard to explain. thank you

If the dining table and chairs are moved out of the current space + you replace them by adding a console (105" wide x 17" deep) - what else will be located in the 12x12 room?

The piece itself does seems like an unusual choice to use for a buffet/sideboard/server.

It's difficult for us to put the photos together in order to understand the layout of the space - even though you probably feel like you've provided enough photos that show the space well.

Is there a wall to the left of the dining table? Will you add a photo + add photos of the space where the dining table will be relocated?

It would be a lot easier for people to comment on your post if we understood the layout of your first floor better (at least the kitchen/current dining area/potential new dining area). If you could sketch the areas + add dimensions for walls/windows/doorways/etc - we will understand the layout much better.

Thank you i have attached the floor plan for the 1st floor. my plan is to move the table and chairs in whats known on the plan as the keeping room it has a side wall of 6 exterior windows. in the back

of the keeping room is a screen porch which i plan to make a 4 season room The 12x12 would now house the console with 2 conversation chairs. its all a very preliminary idea thank you

I’d like to make a comment off topic: I love your kitchen cabinets and colors but the trim on the cabinets jump out at me. Typically the trim that wraps around the cabinets is the same as the cabinet color while the other crown that is just trim would remain white.

I get it now! Sounds like a nice plan for using the space. Is that console about the same length as the two fixed window panels next to the door? That is, it won’t block opening the door? The grids over the mirrored doors on console would give it a less formal look which I think works based on what I can see of the other furniture pieces. The console is taller than it looks - at 38” it’s more than counter height so does work for food server with the length. By ’conversation chairs’ you mean upholstered comfy overstuffed seating? Great if yes!

Thank you. Actually i plan to replace the 3 panel door/windows with all windows but a somewhat shorter window to accommodate the look and height of the console Dont want to lose the light from the windows i agree that perhsps i should wait on the painting of the console until i have put everything in place including a rug with a pop of color and comfy chairs.

The molding on the kitchen cabinets was a tough decision because theres so much of it in the kitchen area so i just decided to connect the white trim all the way around

And yes the Console is almost the same length (105 inches) as the 1 fixed window and double open door (108 inches) Hoping it will work well

I like the way you had the ceiling molding in the kitchen done. @lmmcnitt is correct that the above cab molding is ”typically” done same color as cabs. But, that’s not a rule - it’s a suggestion! The way you had it done is nice because it connects with the molding around the island pillars & it makes it all a nice feature in the kitchen. The cabs & molding are both soft colors - it’s not like a black & white combo that would demand attention. It’s just very nice.

I agree with all three of @KW PNW Z8 comments. I assumed that the cabinet crown was painted white to tie in the crown around the island pillars also. I think waiting until you have your two comfy chairs + area rug to paint your console is a good idea.

I agree that you need to complete the rest of the space first and then decide on color for the console. It would be helpful to see pics of that whole room too. It is not just the kitchen that it needs to look good with but the whole open living space too.

It seems a bit tight to me to put a console there, but it is hard to tell given the angles of the pic. Lower back chairs would also seem to give this dining space more room to breathe but I don't know if that is what is no your agenda.

Yes, the white trim at the top of your cabinets would be the first thing I'd paint if I moved into this home. But, others find it perfectly acceptable.
