rustic pine or birch cabs are a classic .....get new counters....the living space has me scratching my head...french provincial tv stand/ modern table/chairs/ black curtains?? while A FRAME and more rustic cabinets are asking for comforting/ warm wood country things.....area rug.....maybe soapstone counters etc. any issue I can recite is a decorating thematic issue ...interior designer? might transform in a wonderful way. my answer : dont paint the cabinets and I'm trying to get you to think about the overall space.

Yes take down the wallpaper but since your home is open concept the style of the kitchen and living should complement one another. Once you decide on the furnishings for the living room area it might be easier to decide what's best for the kitchen

I think the cabinets are appropriate for an A Frame vacation house. Are you considering new countertops? Maybe tile is the way to address the walls in the kitchen.

I would paint the walls, a light green or light aqua color, and leave the cabinets alone. It isnt the cabinets that are the problem, it is the wall color.
