Is this the best layout for this tiny kitchen?

Doorways and chimney cannot be moved. It is essentially a galley kitchen but really wide. Thanks for any ideas!

Is there a reason that none of the 8.5’ openings can be used as peninsula?

The right side is an exterior wall. The left side is open to the dining area which is very small and would be greatly impeded by a peninsula impede impeded by impeded

Oh my, the words weren’t showing up on while I was typing that 😆

I really don't like that you have almost no counter space by the range. Could you move the range to the exterior wall? Add some cabinetry for storage, and countertops.

Maybe move the dishwasher to where the range is currently drawn in??

Would it feel really cramped to essentially walk into the range? This is the main door (most used into the house). If I used that wall I could do something like this which wouldn’t feel so “heavy”. I don’t know if this is an improvement though? Would also have to use a very small sink in this scenario.

Unfortunate that the most used entry is into a cramped space. I’d mock up that counter with boxes and tape or also consider moving entry door to the side wall so as to extend counter into that space. Neither is ideal but you deserve more from this space.

are you saying the 137 inches is an exterior wall and you want to make an L onto that wall? if so, position the range on that short side of the L. Keep the small sink on the left side of window and place dishwasher to left of sink...

Yes it is an exterior wall and the entrance cannot be changed unfortunately. So you don’t think it would look or feel too heavy to essentially walk into a range?

You mentioned the entrance cant be changed, but can the door swing be changed?

Yes, it is actually switched around. Door must swing into kitchen though as the other side is a small flight of stairs.

I meant switched from left side hinge to right side hinge, still swinging into kitchen. I think that if the door opens from left to right, you can have the range on the outside wall without feeling you are walking straight into the side of the range (or the cab which should be next to it)

I would then modify the fridge wall to give you even more walk-in space. Leaving the fridge where it is, I would have a tall cabinet placed sideways against the fridge. It can be a pantry cab, a clean up cab or even a lower and upper cab, shallower than 24 inches, with a small piece of cointertop, a coffee bar perhaps?, all depending on your needs or wants.

on the 137 in wall if stove placed there I calculate you could have at least a 12 in cab to the right..and even angled cabinet at that. why are you saying the stove is a bumping issue? is that doorway where people come from living room?

Okay, I’ll mock that up. It’s definitely not a bumping issue just more thinking aesthetically, I’m having a hard time imagining entering the kitchen and viewing the side of a stove and uppers.

    Another try.

in a small kitchen people head to their destination....Nothing is really a viewing experience. Fridge is the most frequesnt destination then sink/counter/ retrieval cabinets etc. the stove can actually look pretty good w a teapot and backsplash of tile / utensil crock etc. I dont understand the dilemna exactly. Good Luck.

Okay, so is this third one the best layout in your opinion?

i think you gain the good space between sink and stove around the corner on the longwall...

you can put a side panel as below [ no fridge in your case] if you want some concealing of stove area I guess.

I'm going to step outside the picture and ask for a plan for the whole floor so we can evaluate the function of your whole space.

I think you are overthinking the effect of walking into the room and looking at the side of a range. First of all, you have room for a cab on each side of the range. The range, while it will protrude further than a cab with a countertop on it, will not have its bulk on display, just maybe the side of the oven door and handles. You are not taking advantage of that 137” wall which would allow proper range ventilation either. See if you can mock up 60 or so inches with boxes extending on that wall to create the L and test it out.

Also, as I mentioned above, i would use a tall cabinet (turned sideways as pantry cabinet) next to the fridge instead of a bulky 30” (24” deep) cab. it will add to the less crowded feeling, especially if the door swing can be changed to opening on the left.

If you will post a scaled sketch of the space - including all dimensions of walls/windows/doors/doorways/etc. - people would be able to come up with layouts that you haven't considered. Kendrah is an "expert" on small kitchens. I'm sure that Jan Moyer will also be willing to provide some good input. Use a ruler - 1/4" = 1' (or 1/2" = 1' if that works). Post the sketch in a comment.

Thank you!! I plan to sketch it up soon.
